Lindenwold is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,746 at the 2010 census. Lindenwold is located on the north-central side of the township and has a land area of just 0.06 square miles (0.14 km²). It lies within ZIP Code 07362. The name "Lindenwold" comes from two Dutch words meaning "linden trees" and "wood". The first settler in what is now Lindenwold Township was John Dolan who arrived around 1739. He named his woodland after himself and his wife, also named Jane or Jone de Valkenburg. Dolan's heirs sold most of their holdings to George Washington during the Revolutionary War for $2,500 sterling each. About halfway through the war, however, they reverted back to Dolan's remaining holdings which totaled about 200 acres (80 hectares). In 1811, Michael Gorman purchased all of this land from Washington for $5 per acre ($160 per hectare). Gorman spent several years clearing and planting trees on his new property which he renamed "Lindenwald". After some growth and an addition of buildings in 1823 by George Washington Parke Custis Jr., Gorman donated all but one acre (0.6 square kilometer) of his plantation to become part of what is now Middlesex County as part of the final boundary adjustment following American victory over Great Britain in the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). In 1892 Morris Kapp purchased much of what are now eastern sections of Lindenwald Township from Gorman's descendants for $30 per acre ($1 million total purchase price). Kapp developed much of the township into what it is today with its large tracts housing subdivisions such as those found near Weehawken Junction on Route 9W between Sayreville and Elizabethtown Borough along Interstate 95E/I-95W; Crown Heights; Park Ridge; Mount Laurel; Teaneck; Hackensack River Valley; Bloomfield Township N/A

However, due to objections from some residents who saw this nickname as too military-themed, the name was not changed until 1886 when it was renamed in honor of Commodore Samuel Eliot Morison. During World War II, Lindenwold played a significant role in supporting Allied forces during the Battle of North Africa. Many homes were built specifically for troops stationed at nearby Fort Dix and other military locations throughout central New Jersey. In 1951, when Interstate 95 was completed through central New Jersey, much of what is now eastern Randwick Township was annexed intoLindenwald Township. Today much of that area remains within Randwick Township but portions are located within eastern Morris County including parts of Bricktown and Easton Heights. The economy has continued to grow since then with new businesses taking up space within old factories or warehouses along I-95; however many jobs have been lost due to technological advances such as online shopping or social media platforms like Facebook which have replaced physical stores downtowns across America where jobs used to be found near people’s homes
