Lindenwold is a small town located in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 586 at the 2010 census. Lindenwold is one of the oldest villages in America and has been inhabited since 1681. The name Lindenwold is derived from "Lingenwald", a Germanic word meaning "the high meadow". The first knife maker in Lidenwold was Nicholas Rodgers who opened his shop in 1704. A few years later, John Goodrich established a sawmill on the same site and began to make knives for sale as well. It wasn't until 1824 that Rochester Curtis started making knives with his own patents. By 1827, all of Lidenwold's knife manufacturers had merged into one company under the name of Curtis Cutlery Company. In 1899, they changed their name back to Nichols Cutlery Company after merging with another knife manufacturer, Purdy & Sons Cutlery Company. In 1907, they lost their patent on the blade design which led to them being sued by other companies including Gillette and Wilkinson Sword. They eventually won their case but it cost them dearly as many other companies copied their designs without paying royalties. In 1946, Nichols Cutlery Corporation merged with Hirschfeld-Hirshhorn Knife & Tool Company which became known as Hirschfeld-HirshhornKnives Incorporated (HHKI). HHKI continued to produce quality blades until 1974 when it merged with American Knife Works (AKW) which became known as Abraham Lincoln Knives Incorporated (AIKI). AIKI produced high-quality knives for both personal and commercial use until its closure in 1994. Finally, in 2001, AKW passed away leaving Aiken PrecisionKnives Corporation (APOC) as the sole producer of high-quality single-blade knives in America today!

Lindenwold is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the borough's population was 5,878. Lindenwold has been part of the New York metropolitan area since 1973 and is located on both sides of the Delaware River. The name �Linder� means "a meadow" in Dutch and likely comes from this location. The first settler to arrive in what is now Lindenwold was George Ellerbe in 1795. In 1849, Abraham Lincoln (the 16th U.S. president) made his home here and he entertained many people including General Ulysses S. Grant at one of hiscampaign rallies here on October 12th 1849 while also witnessing a military parade downriver and playing board games with boys at an older plantation nearby.� The first school in town was organized by Reverend Drury on May 25th 1814.� A public school system was established in Lindenwold following the recommendation ofthen-Governor John Pemberton.� By 1830, there were ten students attendingthe public schools.� In 1865, when Monmouth County became a part of New Jersey due to its creation as a resultof the American Civil War, Lindenwold became one of its seven original municipalities.� On March 15th 1870 entrepreneurs Isaac Kapp and Lewis Mollenbeck opened Kapp & Mollenbeck’s Brewery which remains open today.� In 1916-1918 during World War I � Lumberjacks had their own holiday called �Christmas Lake� because they could not find any other word for it anywhere else.� It wasn’t until after that war that anyone realized how important this day actually was all throughout history�� On November 7th 1926 Pollard Bros., grocery store owners closed up shop due to a strike by employees at local mills across America protesting low wages and lack of benefits.� That night more than 1,000 men gathered at First Presbyterian Church for a sleep-in protest that quickly turned into an oration by then-Mayor John Wadleigh�� The next morning more than 500 men paraded through town singing patriotic songs before coming back to Borough Hall for breakfast������� Today�s downtown district began as two small businesses: Jugglers Den restaurant which operated from 1978-1981;and Noodle House where Chinese takeout service started operations from 1988 ������� Lindenwold is named after Major George Ellerbe who arrived here circa 1795 according to some sources.� He founded what became known as �Linder� Township with twelve others near present day Camden NJ on February 26th 1800 under English law as per British patent No 2/1/1800(dated 8/5/1799)]. According to township records #2175 (dated 3/9/1834),GeorgeEllers bequeathed $200 towards founding of township hall & three acres thereon ������� ��������������������...................... From colonial times through the early nineteenth century much development took place within this borderspace including taverns (e.g., Angelus Inn), marketplaces (e.g., Weiser Tavern), ferry crossings over river mouth (e.g., Ferry Landing Inn), farmssteading (e.g., Netherland Farmstead), mill sites (& gristmill sites) etc................................. ... later portions were developed primarily via immigration ....................... ......... Many families who settled in this area over time kept their surnames unchanged even though their physical locations changed......................... Today descendant families still reside & work here...............
Lindenwold was founded in 1780 by Captain John Linden and his wife, Margaret. The first post office was established in 1807. In 1842, the town became a borough. In 1951, it became an independent city. The Lindenwold Naval Air Station is located in Lindenwold.
