Lindenwold is a town inHunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. As of the 2000 Census, the township's population was 4,707. It is located on the southern edge of Hunterdon County and is bordered by Morris Township to the east, Wayne Township to the west and Hackensack Township to the north. Lindenwold was founded in 1754 as a small community on Alexander Hamilton's farmstead near present-day Livingston. The name comes from Dutch "linden" (a kind of maple) and "wold" (a valley). The first settler in what is now Lindenwold was John Crain who arrived in 1755 with his family from Scotland. They built a log cabin on land that still stands today at corner of Main and Wood Streets. In 1758 Major George Washington surveyed what would become Lindenwold and named it after his friend Lord Baltimore who had died during King George III's war with France In 1814 Anthony Caruso settled here with his wife MaryAnn from Italy along with their two children Giovanni and Lucia Caruso. Their home for over 100 years remains standing at 6100 Bedford Avenue -Anthony Caruso’s original home which he acquired through marriage settlement between him and his Italian brideMary Ann Pappagallo". In 1825 Isaac Morse moved here from Boston also followed by many other immigrants over time including: James Kappeler, Nicholas Biddle Sr., John Swardy ( namesake of Newark’s main thoroughfare Swardy Boulevard), Augustus Schellenberg (founder of Paramus NJ), Solomon Zerubavel (owner/operator of Morristown NJ railroad line), Nathan Weiser(founder/operator of Teaneck NJ factory).virtually every socio-economic group brought their own unique set of skills or commerce that helped contribute to this growing center across central New Jersey." The earliest post office established in what is now Lindenwold was called Bellefonte which opened on October 30th, 1800 under postal executive order #1 authored by Andrew Jackson. On February 26th 1821 postmaster General John Marshall ordered post offices be established throughout New Jersey “to promote general circulation among us” pursuant to Article VII Section 1of our Constitution The first store in what is now Lindenwold opened its doors on May 25th 1830 by Amos Ishmael Fenton who operated out of a room above Mr Holmes bakery located at 9 Maple Street known as “Fenton’s Store” until 1870 when it closed due to competition from an expanding grocery chain led by Lewis Capron On December 15th 1840 Captain Abraham Levy purchased land comprising much part of present day Lindenwald Park boundedeast by Maple StreetandwestbyRutland Roadforthe constructionofaresidential village consistingofanancestralhomeand sixhouseslateraddedtothevillagebyCaptainLevy himself . According to legend Captain Levy donated all but one house within what became known as Village Park so that no one could buy it until they were able to build something more permanent . This donation has been interpreted variously as either motivated out OF political correctness or simply because he wanted nothing whatsoever To do With an unincorporated area situated outside Of any incorporated municipality

Lindenwold is a small town in the U.S. state of New Jersey, located on the banks of the Delaware River. The population was 4,844 at the 2010 census and 5,233 as of2015. Lindenwold is part of Camden County and is bordered by Camden to the east, Elizabethtown to the north, Newark to the northwest and Union City to the south. The first settlers arrived in 1764, when Benjamin Franklin brought his family from Philadelphia overland. The community was named for John Lindenbaum (1636-1718), an Elder at Temple Israel in Philadelphia who had enthusiastically advocated for its foundation as a religious congregation. In 1846, after years of debate between two groups vying for control over land within town limits, Lindenwold became part of Camden County when it was created from portions of both Middlesex and Sussex counties. In 1854, Elijah Howe purchased 3 acres (1 km2) within what is now Lindenwold Township from Samuel Davenport for $15 per acre ($160 per hectare). He founded a gristmill there which powered an early local paper mill until 1865; later that year he donated land along with his gristmill property to create what is now Eden United Methodist Church–the first church built in northeastern Camden County (later Trenton County). In 1896–97 school trustees voted not to open a new high school because enrollment had been declining since 1894; however a committee consisting largely of teachers recommended that the village build one—and so it did. That same year saw another important event: entrepreneur George Brainard erected a wooden frame steamboat landing at Sandy Hook on Delaware Bayou near present-day Cherry Hill as an economic stimulus package designed to promote fishing and commerce in southeastern Camden County while stimulating development around Cherry Hill Village proper. In 1907–08 political newcomer James Fenton bought 1/4 mile (0.6 km) northeast of present day Lindenwold Township line from Albert Jacyk for $5 per acre ($10 per hectare). He developed this land into what is now known as Penn's Landing–a key commercial center on Delaware Bayou during prohibition days before becoming one of America's leading tobacco growers through his company eventually merged with RJR Nabisco Inc.. In 1924 Fenton donated 1/3 mile (1 km) due westward along today's Route 22 corridor – including much older parts still used today by residents such as Presbyterian minister Rev'd Drs James Kappler andRev'd Dr Alfred Ladd – towards Princeton Junction where he planned to build one or more large estates home ported trains coming into Philly each day taking workers away for their various businesses ashore then returning back aboard again nightfall loaded with finished goods bound for Philly Depot then delivered directly back ashore without ever leaving NJ soil! This scheme never came off but would have been quite an incredible sight if successful! Today we can see remnants of this structure just north side I-95 exit ramp off I-295 near Dovercourt Rd., formerly known as "Brainard's Landing" A few miles further downriver lies also another significant piece associated with this period —the legendary " logging bridge" spanning Headford Creek which connected Penn's Landing upstream with Logstown downstream! It stood until 1969 when it washed away following heavy rains caused by Hurricane Agnes!. Despite all these hurdles though business continued unabated… finally spawning born Eagle Point Naval Shipyard in nearby Elizabethtown!! The shipyard rapidly morphed into perhaps one of most important local employers during post World War II era helping contribute greatly To countless basic needs throughout our area including munitions production……….. truly something special happened here…. !!
Lindenwold was founded in 1792 by Captain John Linden and his wife, Martha. The first settler in the area, John Milton, arrived in 1793. The town became a borough in 1834 and then an incorporated village in 1876. It was renamed Lindenwold after Colonel James W. Linden, its first mayor. In 1949, the borough was dissolved and its assets were merged into Rahway Township.
