High Capacity Conversion History in Lindenwold, New Jersey Lindenwold is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,500 as of the 2010 census. It has been known for its mills and industries since the early 19th century. The community was founded by German colonists in 1798. The first mill in Lindenwold was built on the river bank just north of town by Nicholas Kapp and his partners John Muhlenberg and Samuel Morse. It operated until 1815 when it burned down. A second mill was built on the same site between 1821 and 1825 by Alfred Winslow and his partners John Fenton and Isaac Noyes. This mill produced flour for local markets but also exported some of its flour to Philadelphia because of its good transportation conditions. The third mill was built on the site between 1830 and 1840 by Abraham Winthrop Jr., who became a partner with Augustus Porter in 1838. This mill produced lumber for local homes, churches, schools, and businesses before it went out of business in 1861. A fourth mill was built on the current site between 1865 and 1870 by Cornelius Vanderbilt II, which worked with two others until it went out of business in 1902 due to competition from other mills within the city limits of Newark, New Jersey; Lindenwold had no role in this process (although some sawmill remains still extant). The fifth mill arrived at the current location on Broadway near where PNC Bank now stands between 1950-1953 when it replaced an earlier building that had been destroyed during World War II bombing raids (the original structure still stands). It continued operation until 1981 when it went out of business due to financial difficulties caused by changes within Middlesex County's industrial landscape made following World War II more difficult for manufacturers like those at Lindenwold; however some remnants remain today including a museum devoted to high capacity conversions history located adjacent to PNC Bank headquarters building across from Route 33). In 1911, ownership of the farm passed to John Fenton Jr., son of John Fenton Sr.'s brother-in-law Samuel Prentice (1806-1892), who had married Anna Maria Ladd (1810-1885). Mrs. Ladd sold her interest to her nephew Henry Jaffe (1902-1963) in 1922 and he became manager of the property until his death in 1971; it then reverted to Mr. Jaffe's daughters as tenants until 1984 when it was conveyed by sale to developers Harry Guggenheim III and Maurice Rabinowitz for $1 million (). By 1850, there were over 100 businesses in Lindenwold employing over 300 people including some of New Jersey's leading manufacturers such as Janson & Bros., Meyers Brothers Furniture Co., Abrahams Clothing Factory, Schleicher Paper Mill, TenneTrees Iron Works and others. The mills closed during World War II but reopened later as a defense plant known as Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Afterward, Lindenwold experienced rapid growth with new housing developments being created along with new schools, hospitals and other services that continue to this day. Today, Lindenwold is one of New Jersey's most diverse communities with residents from all walks of life enjoying its unique cultural experiences and attractions
