Lindenwold, New Jersey is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,527 at the 2010 census. Lindenwold is located on the border of Morris and Warren Counties. The name of the town originates from a small wood near the stream known as Linden Pond. The first settler in what is now Lindenwold was John Prentiss who arrived in 1785 and built a cabin on an old mill pond east of present day Main Street. In 1814, two farmers named Hargrave and Knight bought land southeast of where the modern-day high school stands and began to build a farm called "Mountain View". They left behind a large wooden cottage which still stands today as part of the core campus for Easton Area High School (now Weston Area High School). The first post office in what is now Lindenwold was established on December 12, 1817 by Joshua Gouverneur with one letter sent to Newark. It served until March 4th, 1824 when it was moved to nearby Middletown due to population growth. In 1800, three men were granted land just west of what is now Main Street: George Washington Whiteacre (the first white man to get land outside Philadelphia), Ebenezer Kolb (the first black man to receive township property) and Solomon Davenport (one of the earliest settlers in Morris County). This area became known as "Davenport's Ranch" because Davenport purchased all but about 4 acres from Ebenezer Kolb for $1 per acre

Lindenwold has been incorporated as a city since 1968. The history of Lindenwold dates back to its founding as a trading post by Elias Howe in 1718 on the newly formed Dutch colony of New Netherland. After years of growth and development, including an influx of refugees from England during the American Revolution, Lindenwold reached its peak population with over 10,000 residents by 1800 thanks to its trade routes with Philadelphia and other parts of Pennsylvania. However, during America's War for Independence (1775-83), many English settlers fled to new colonies along the Delaware River due to policies instituted by British Prime Minister George III that aimed to preserve British control over North America after independence was gained. Many English colonists stayed behind and continued their businesses in what is now Lindenwold; this group eventually numbered less than 3% of present day Lindenwallian residents at its peak in 1803 however they continued contributing significantly to economic life until township incorporation occurred some 25 years later in 1833 under pressure from local business interests spearheaded by Abram Smeaton (the son-in-law/brother-in-law of noted industrialist John Davenport). In 1830s land sales took place within township boundaries which led to explosive growth for both township and city populations with properties valued at $20 per acre becoming available for purchase within just five years – much faster than any other surrounding municipalities or counties! By 1840, total population had climbed past 12,000 people living on parcels valued at $200 per acre! This rapid expansion allowedForney’s Brewery & Distillery(founded 1829)to open up shop next door (on today's Cook Avenue) while also creating ample opportunity for commercial development such as livery services and retail storefronts that would soon be commonplace throughout northern Liberties Township acrossriver from downtownPhiladelphia – setting off a decades long period where significant commercial development took place adjacent to what would come to become known as “The Strip” nickname given unto transportation hubs central Philly & Philadelphians constantly refer back To Today
