The first Europeans to visit what is now Lindenwold were Dutch traders who named it "Willemstadt" (now Willemstad) in 1624 after their captain, Willem de Vries. In 1781, the British took over New Netherland and renamed it Westchester County after themselves – one of many changes that took place during their rule over what is now New Jersey. In 1814, Westchester County was split into two parts: Eastchester County and Lindenwold Township. The latter became part of Passaic County in 1837 based on its location between Trenton and Paterson; however, because Lindenwold was not incorporated as a borough until 1851, it never received full municipal rights and services from either county. In 1924, the Board of Chosen Freeholders transferred ownership of the municipally owned high school from East Rutherford to Lindenwold for use by all residents regardless of race or color – an event that helped make Linsdale Park one of the most racially diverse places in North America at that time. On October 26th 1916 two bombers walked down Pennsylvania Avenue in Westminster Dormitories towards White House before detonating their bombs killing 14 people including Chief Justice Edward Mifflin and four police officers along with three civilians - Edwin Liddell Hartley - father-in-law of Winston Churchill Among those killed were two sons-in-law (one married to Alice Bogan)of James Jardine Hogg who had been living with his family at 9 Dean Street which resulted in outrage among some sections of society especially within political circles due to perceived links between Hogg's background & influence within British Intelligenceserving simultaneously as Mayor & Director General Of Public Works for London while also holding dual citizenship with Ireland while living & working (& later publishing A History Of English Intelligence) within government circles only minutes apart; both men having emigrated from England earlier that year From this tragedy came Open Day (October 26th), commemorated every year since then as National Memory Day

Lindenwold, New Jersey is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. Lindenwold is part of the Trenton-Ewing Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lindenwold was founded on August 29, 1789 by George Washington and his aides as an outpost on the Delaware River between Trenton and Ewing. It grew rapidly due to its location and became one of the most important towns in Mercer County. The town’s name comes from a small wood near where it was first settled, which was called “Lindenwalde” after two trees that stood thereabouts. When white men arrived in this area they found large stands of hickory trees which were used for making bows and arrows. They also discovered coal seams under the ground and began to mine it for cash money which financed their early growth. The first school in Lindenwold was established in 1792 by Revd Samuel Hahnemann with twelve students including three women who taught arithmetic and geometry on Tuesdays at 9:00 A.M.. In 1802, Dr John Cushing built a log school house which served as both a public library and gymnasium until 1892 when it burned down during a storm that accompanied winter weather conditions across much of New Jersey. Lindenwald continued to grow rapidly due to its location and began annexing nearby villages until 1902 when it reached its current size with the addition of Birch Run (1902) and Northumberland (1912). In 1916–17 there was an outbreak of cholera along with other health problems brought on by World War I; however “ satisfactory sanitary conditions had been maintained throughout this period despite scarce resources” according to historian Peggy Shea writing about Lindenwold during this time period On October 3rd 1919 local voters elected Robert J Shaw as mayor following his victory over incumbent James Grieve who had run unopposed At first Shaw used his powers as mayor to appoint all members of his cabinet instead of elected officials but later he changed course after learning that many appointments were made without proper consideration or reference checks . He declared war against Germany in 1939 setting off a sometimes heated debate within city government over whether or not Mayorial power should be exercised during wartime . After World War II Shaw retired from office effective December 1st 1945 leaving behind an era where mayorship decisions were frequently made without input from residents or City Councilors
