Linden is a borough in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. Linden was formed on April 17, 1871 from the merger of two smaller towns—Lakewood and Bloomingdale—along with Holmdel Township. The population was 12,887 at the 2010 census. Linden is located in the Delaware Valley region of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The first Europeans to be sighted in present-day Linden were Dutch sailors who came ashore on Long Island during their 1609 voyage looking for new land to explore. In 1714, General George Washington's army passed through the area while traveling north along the East Coast and saw Indians living near what is now Princeton Manor on Long Island; this led to an early exploration of the area by American settlers and traders. In 1811, a group of men from Jersey City purchased 2 acres (0.81 km2) of land at Broad Street and Meetinghouse Road in what is now northeast corner of today's Linden Township as part of a larger project to purchase land along Delaware River for development into a town or village center. The town site was chosen because it would be accessible by boat from Newark Bay and its port district; it would become home to many merchants who operated out of warehouses on Market Street between State Street and Broad Streets. The first structure built in what is now downtown Linden was a brewery called "The Brewery" which opened its doors in 1827 by James Auldsberry, one of the founders of modern day Philadelphia (Auldsberry later moved his brewery downriver)). The original building still stands within city limits but has been replaced numerous times since then including most recently as home to Penn & Company Law School from 1967 until its closure in 2002. In 1840, John Prentice built himself a brick house at 5th & High Streets after moving from Englewood Cliffs NJ where he had been working as an engineer for Thomas Edison’s company ever since apprenticeship began there 10 years earlier that year! Prentice became well-known throughout Northeast Pennsylvania for his brewing business - both small local brewers such as himself that brewed only around 60 gallons per batch (about 3 pints), plus imports like those made by Samuel Adams Brewery – all while running one concurrent operation! He also owned extensive farmland northwest of downtown serving as feeder property for Bethlehem Steel Mills located just east across Route 22/Upper Merion Road from township boundaries). bottles left at various breweries over time have come down river into our current day neighborhoods such as Kensington Borough PA ([email protected] ), Allentown PA ([email protected]), Cherry Hill NJ ([email protected]), West Chester PA ([email protected]) etc., forming some sort symbiosis with those neighborhoods over time with each community gaining increased commercial activity due licensee relocation higher upriver or elsewhere resulting not only increased cultural values but also marketing dollars brought more people and businesses closer together - something we take for granted today! It should also be noted that without prohibition strong organized crime groups never could have functioned successfully within our communities early 1800's thru mid 1900's especially given our social infrastructure pre-Prohibition!! So another important note about Prohibition - it actually did help reduce organized crime activity significantly within our municipalities however much credit should go to state officials prior thereto who really did an outstanding job!!!

Linden is a borough in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 20,584 at the 2010 census. Linden is part of the New York City metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Linden were Dutch colonists who settled there in 1624. In 1802, the U.S. government purchased land from the Dutch for $2 million and named it Fort Mercer after General James Mercer, commander of American forces in East North Africa during the War of 1812. The town began as a small stop on the Delaware Railroad before becoming an incorporated village on October 17, 1902. In 1915, President Woodrow Wilson dedicated a memorial garden to soldiers killed or wounded in World War I at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington Heights, Massachusetts. The Garden District of Linden was designated as such by Executive Order 6389 dated November 5, 1916 and annexed by Linden on February 1st of that year under its own name which included all of what is now known as South Hunterdon Borough including sections north and east of Route 9A (the present-day border between Middlesex Township and Hunterdon County). On July 8th 2006, Hurricane Katrina struck landfall near Gulfport make landfall just west of where Camden County borders Mississippi without damage or fatalities reported within either county but causing extensive flooding throughout southeastern Louisiana due to overloading from Katrina’s winds and rains
In Linden, New Jersey, the first immigrants to arrive were Dutch in 1664. The town was originally named "Brantwood" after a nearby plantation. It was renamed "Linden" in 1797 after Colonel John Linden of the 3rd Regiment of Foot (later the Royal Irish Fusiliers) who donated land for a public square and school. In 1871, the Gold Coast Railroad came through Linden and made it an important junction for travelers heading westward from Camden and Atlantic City. The railroad also served as a major market for goods produced inLinden and throughout New Jersey. The population of Linden increased rapidly during World War II because of its proximity to RAF Ridgeway on Long Island which became one of the most important bombing targets in Europe. During the war, many businesses closed due to wartime shortages but some continued to operate until they closed again in the postwar period. In 1951, when New Jersey seceded from the United States, Linden became part of East Brunswick Township within newly formed Brunswick County. However, because it is located within East Brunswick Township's borders and not within any other township or county within New Jersey, it has never gained municipal status outside of its own bounds.
