When Hurricane Floyd made landfall on August 29th 1999 within ½ mile (800 feet) ofLinden town hall it caused extensive damage both inside and outside the township limits with more than $500 million worth of damage done to homes and businesses throughout Mercer County alone The storm also destroyed many trees which completely covered entire neighborhoods leaving no sign where they had once been. This event is known locally as "The Tree Trimming" because so many trees were knocked down that you would never know where one ends and another begins
