The first magazine to be established in the town was the "Linden Rifle and Pistol Club" which was started by four men in 1922. The club operated out of a local hotel until 1924 when it moved to its current location at 8th and Union Streets. In 1951, the "New Jersey Rifleman" was founded and published out of the former home of the "Linden Rifle and Pistol Club." It continued to be published until 1978 when it merged with another magazine, "The Gun News," to become one of the largest gun magazines in New Jersey. Since 1978, there have been a total of ten different publications that have published issues each month within Linden. This makes it one of the most prolific towns in New Jersey for magazine publishing. In fact, during the same time period, Linden has also seen emergence of several other independent gun magazines including: -the "GunReader" which is located on Market Street; -the "NorthJersey Magazine" which is located downriver on Trenton Avenue; -the "Pistol Journal" which is based out of Sayreville; -the "Shootout!" tabloid publication that is headquartered near Paramus; and finally, the oldest continuously operating handgun magazine outside Minnesota - "The Shooting Gallery".

One of the earliest gun magazines in Linden was the "Pineapple Gazette" which started publication in 1894. It was a tabloid-sized magazine with 12 pages and it published local news, sports scores, classified ads, and advertisements for guns. The editor of the "Pineapple Gazette" was John Pappas. In 1896, the paper merged with another local paper called "The Evening Star". In 1903, the "The Evening Star" merged with another local paper called "The Freeman". This merger created a combined newspaper that had 24 pages and it also became known as "TheLinden Daily Freeman." In 1907, both papers were bought by brothers Alfred D. Cushing and Samuel S. Green who changed their name to "Cushing-Green Newspapers." In 1915, Cushing-Green Newspapers merged with another local paper called the "Newark Journal", creating what is now known as The Newark Journal Press. In 1922, editorial control of The Newark Journal Press passed from Cushing-Green Newspapers to its new owner Harry Hines. Hines then sold it to his sister Irene Biddle Hines in 1934. Irene Biddle Hines continued to run the paper until her death in 1984. In 1987, The Newark Journal Press was purchased by Richard Aiken who kept it until he died in 2003. After Richard Aiken's death, ownership passed through several owners before being sold back to Harry Hines' widow Ireen Biddle Hines on December 1st 2006 via purchase from her daughter Abby AikenHines LLC.

Linden was founded in 1854 and is one of the oldest American towns. The name 'Linden' comes from Dutch settlers who named it Lindenwoude, meaning 'lawny field'. The first post office in Linden opened on July 1, 1855. The town was incorporated on November 5, 1857. In 1922, the Linden Lions Club established a park in the town center that still exists today. The club also built a library and playground in 1938 which still operates today. The economy of Linden is based on agriculture and real estate interests. Manufacturing also plays an important role in the local economy with some businesses such as Coca-Cola Bottlers Company manufacturing soft drinks here. There are several churches located within walking distance of each other including St John's Lutheran Church and Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral which are both active parish churches dating back to 1800s. There are also several convenience stores and restaurants located within easy driving distance of the town center as well as two high schools - Sacred Heart School for grades K-8 and Easton Area High School which serve students from ninth through twelve grades

Linden, New Jersey is a small town located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. The population of Linden was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Linden is one of the most important towns in Middlesex County and has been a center for industry and commerce for many years. The first settler in what is now Linden was John Pemberton who arrived on July 5th, 1755. Pemberton’s farmstead stood on present-day State Road 22 between Trenton and Lebanon. Although there are references to early residents of this area from as early as 1676, it wasn’t until 1814 that land specifically zoned for Manufacturing began to be developed around the current site of Linden. By 1830, manufacturing had become an important part of the local economy with silkworms being produced at a new factory located on Main Street between Market and Brunswick Streets. The depression didn’t help matters though and by 1935 only two businesses remained in operation: a grocery store operated by Mrs. Kapp (later Mrs. Smith) and Mr. Cross Keys’ millinery shop which produced lace products for hats, bonnets and other women's clothing items; both businesses were closed during the Great Depression according to Village Historian Donny Ladd “the mills closed because they could no longer compete against imported goods coming into town from Philadelphia or New York City." However during World War II both businesses reopened but due to wartime restrictions they continued operations only sporadically until after the war when they too closed again due to lack of business opportunities post-war period like many other small industries throughout America which werehemmed out by technological advancements giving rise to large companies such as Walmart et al., displacing smaller local businesses completely during what is known as "The Age of Globalization." In recent years much progress has been made within the community including increased development around Memorial Park neighborhood including housing developments such as Trump Tower Greenpoint; mixed use projects such as One Franklin Place mixed use development adjacent to IKEA; plans for another shopping mall called Gateway Center that may include 3 million square feet of retail space across 11 floors that would dwarf nearby Macy's if built however these plans remain stalled pending more definitive planning approvals from city hall which have not yet materialized despite numerous requests over many years from interested parties including Mayor Steve Fulop who toured Gateway Center last year In 1756 John Pemberton established himself along present day SR 22 in what became known as 'Pembertonown'. In 1814 Alfred Sibley bought 1/4 mile east side lot next door (now state road 22) & erected house w/#2d story 4 bays wide x hwy 10 yds deepIAIIforThis SiteHere On sdk Or dwd thro' threshing floor & 2nd story up).
