The new town became known as Stockbridge Station because its residents had deposited their cartloads of goods there for storage before beginning their journey downriver. In 1839, Linden Township was formed from portions of Rahway Township and Englewood Township when those towns were divided among four counties following the creation of New Jersey by Act 3 of 1837: Essex, Middlesex, Hunterdon, and Passaic Counties (the latter two remaining separately incorporated until 1949). Municipalities within Linden include Englewood Borough (founded 1915), Rahway Borough (founded 1907), Northvale Borough (founded 1893), Southvale Borough (founded 1907), West Milford Borough (founded 1922), East Milford Borough (founded 1922), Woodstown borough which merged into Linden in 2009; Asbury Park borough which became part of Union City in 2013; Paramus borough which became part of Monmouth Beach in 2018; Edison city which merged into Bloomfield on January 1st 2019; Princeton village which merged into Plainsboro on November 15th 2020 According to the United States Census Bureau, Linden has a total area of , all land.

Linden, New Jersey is a town in Camden County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 10,878 at the 2010 census. Linden is one of nine municipalities in Camden County and the second largest municipality by population after Camden City. Linden was founded in 1799 as part of the Township of Perth Amboy on the north side of Philadelphia. In 1856, when it merged with other townships within Camden County to form a new township, Linden became the county seat of Camden County. Linden has a rich history dating back to its founding as part of Perth Amboy Township on April 12th, 1799. At that time there were only two homes in what is now Linden - one known as "The General's House" and another which may have been built by John Woolridge or his son Isaac Woolridge (born 1693). The first settler in what is now Linden was Daniel Boone who arrived there in 1792 from Virginia via Philadelphia. He named it for his friend and mentor Sir George Washington who had become President shortly before Boone's arrival. In 1801, following annexation by Philadelphia due to political unrest caused by rising tensions between Pennsylvania and Delaware over boundary changes made during the American Revolution (the war), Lindsay became part of newly formed Burlington Township on the north side of Philadelphia - becoming responsible for all water supplies within its borders (and later state waters). This arrangement continued until 1855 when it merged with other townships within Camden County to form a new township -Linden becoming responsible for all water supplies within its borders once again! Throughout much of its long history, Lindsay has been an agricultural center with significant crops including wheat, corn and potatoes; but also saw production contributions from horticulture such as roses and fruit trees; wool manufacturing; leatherworking; soap making; cheese production; furniture making etc. In recent years however industrialization has began to take hold with many businesses setting up shop here including restaurants/cafés/bars/nightspots etc., while homebuilders have begun building more suburban-like properties throughout town – givingLinden an even more diverse economy today than when it first started out! Linden was first settled in 1795 by John and Deborah Linden. The town was originally named "Lenox". It was renamed to its current name in 1814 after General Andrew Jackson's victory at the Battle of Yorktown.
