Lincoln Park, New Jersey is a park located in the Township of Lincoln and County of Morris, within the New York metropolitan area. The park was dedicated on July 16, 1949 to Dr. George Washington Carver. The park has a total acreage of 6,725 acres and contains over 20 miles of trails that connect it with other parks in the township and county. This was the first gun laser system to be commercially available and it operated from a small room inside Fordham's Physics Building on West 143rd Street in Manhattan. The original 1,500-acre site included what is now Lincoln Park Boulevard and Third Avenue in South Philly. He donated land to create the park on which he lived with his wife Mary Todd Lincoln until her assassination in 1865. In 1893 Mayor John Fenton decided to name it after President Abraham Lincoln because of its location near the White House and nearby Mount Vernon estate. The first public use of Lincoln Park occurred on October 25th when three friends from Reading took a walk around the new parkland. They hired an experienced pathologist named Drury to study the remains of two horses that had been killed by animals living near Independence Hall at Market Street and Second Avenue (now 6th Street). Drury found that one horse had died from natural causes while the other had been shot by someone – probably someone involved with political dissenters who wanted to prevent it from being examined too closely by authorities. This event was reported back home within minutes of occurrence! Lincoln Park quickly became popular among Philadelphiaites for its beauty, length, variety, peaceable atmosphere (due largely to its lack of traffic),and open space – qualities that continue to make it one of America's most beloved parks today. In 1905 Mayor Leonard Wood announced plans to expand Lincoln Park by purchasing additional land elsewhere in South Philly including parts of North Broadview Heights and West Philadelphia (now Thurgood Marshall Boulevard). This expansion would add more than 5 miles of hiking trails, baseball diamonds/homesite fields/parking lots/,and even a movie theater! Unfortunately these plans never came true due to financial troubles at city hall.. After years spent fundraising via private donations and chairmanships at local organizations such asphiladelphia society for benevolent purposes (later known as Philadelphians for Parks) locals successfully lobbied their state legislature into appropriating $225,000 towards acquiring lands adjacentto present day Lincoln Park so that it could be annexed intoPhiladelphia proper instead Today much of this original acreage still exists within boundaries established during those early days including portionsof North Broadview Heights., West Philadelphia., East Liberty Borough., Girard College Addition & Roosevelt Roads . Although some recent development has taken place such as constructionof high school buildings on former military sites adjoiningthe park(including ground zero for 9/11)),most importantly LincolnsPark retains much of its rich history & character despite ongoing efforts by developers millenials like myself !!
