Lincoln Park is a located in the township of Lincoln, in Bergen County, New Jersey. The park was created in 1881 when Abraham Lincoln and his family moved from Illinois to what is now the town of Lincoln. The first public park in the area was called Newark Park and it was located on the east side of Newark Avenue between Highland and Queens streets. In 1892, the population of Newark Borough changed hands so that Lincoln Township became part of borough, and so Newark Park became Lincoln Park Boulevard. In 1934, Abraham Lincolns death caused a change to its name to honor President George Washington as well as Mr. Lincolns father-in-law John Haynesworth. The total acreage now includes over 120 acres including part of Dearborn Heights which is also within the park boundaries. The trees that line much of the Parkway are nearly two centuries old and date back to when powder Magazine near by was used for training officers for both American independence wars (1775-83) as well as American Civil War (1861-65). Many visitors find interpretive signs about local history at various points along the route - from where pioneer settlers walked during their early days on Indian reservations (Fenwick's Tavern), through landmarks associated with World Wars I & II like Fort Lee (1915), II & III like Nofa Beach (1946), all the way up to choices made about highways or arterial roads such as Route 22/State Street bypassing downtown Jersey City in 1971 - these include photos honoring people such as Governor Thomas Kean who had been killed earlier that year while campaigning for re-election against incumbent Mayor Raymond Shahan One popular spot onroute is known locally simply as "the loop" because it takes a circular path around an open field close to Meadowlands Racetrack where General Pershing played football before his defeat at Cold Harbor Cemetery on July 4th, 1917; he would go on to become commander general US forces in Europe Command prior to his death there five years later On September 15th 1938 Roosevelt dedicated Montclair State Hospital which lies adjacent to Grantpark Drive next door across from Veterans Memorial Stadium; then just over one mile away down Grantpark Dr., you will find another presidential inauguration site: Ford’s Theatre – home also during WWI (& WWII)of Vice President Henry Wallace
