In 1865, American Benjamin Butler founded the Ammunition Manufacturing Company in Lincoln Park, New Jersey. The company became one of the most successful producers of ammunition in America and exported its products to many countries. In 1898, the company was purchased by Remington Arms Company. From then until 1945, Ammunition Manufacturing Company produced 2 million rounds per day for the U.S. military. The company closed its doors in 1945 and all production stopped. The area was once a part of Bergen County and has been living under one roof since 1857 when it was annexed by Middlesex County. It's also home to many historical landmarks, including the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum as well as two football stadiums, the NJ Devils' Newark Arena and Giants Stadium.
