In 1898, the club constructed its first target range on a piece of property that is now part of the Marines National Cemetery. The club also hosted tournaments where people could compete for prizes. In 1902, the Kearny Rifle and Pistol Club merged with another rifle and pistol club in nearby Uniontown. This merger allowed the Kearny Rifle & Pistol Club to become one of the largest rifle clubs in New Jersey. The club continued tohost tournaments until World War II when it ceased operations due to military restrictions on guns.

Kearny is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. Kearny was first settled in the early 17th century by English colonists. The original name of the town was Old Ferry Road. As a result of a referendum held in 1908, it became part of the newly created Township of Kearny and still retains that name today. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. The first settlers to what is now Kearny were English colonists who arrived in 1628 as part of the Mayflower Compact from England. They named their new settlement after Lieutenant Colonel John Kearney who had fought for the British against Native Americans at Bunker Hill during the American Revolution. A ferry landed on an island near where present-day Main Street crosses the Hackensack River, which facilitated transportation between New York City and points south. The ferry service stopped running around 1826 because of expense and competition from railroads. The area that is now Kearny was first settled by German immigrants in 1714 when they came overland from Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna Valley via cultivation of land along river valleys across southern New Jersey and northwestern Pennsylvania. They named their location “Kearnysburg” after Captain Johann Kerkorian, commander of one of their group’s three boats that traveled downriver to make contact with Dutch traders at what is now Princeton Junction on September 24, 1714 (now known as Fishkill Junction). That same year Captain Kerkorian also founded nearby Saybrook Village on what is today Northark Boulevard just east of Route 22nd Street; Saybrook Village remained active until its closure in 1924 due to economic reasons. In 1801, all or portions thereof including Kearny were acquired by United States General George Washington under Treaty #8 signed at Saratoga Springs between Great Britain and America following his defeat at Saratoga Creek (now West Egg Island) on October 11th, 1800; General Washington conveyed title to this area to James Hoban who platted it into townships which were then divided into wards or precincts; each township contained ten lots with total assessed valuation for $2 per lot ($38/$4 = $108). On February 12th 1802 President Thomas Jefferson issued a proclamation designating certain blocks within each township as National Monument Blocks – those blocks are still included within present-day Morris County Boroughs: Allendale (northwest corner), Arlington (southwest corner), Belleville ( northeast corner), Camden (east side), Cherry Hill/Everest Heights/Westminster Heights/Easton Highlands ( northeast corner), Franklin Lakes/Mount Laurel Gardens/Greenwich Streetsboro Township Park District No 10
Kearny was originally part of the township of Monmouth. On November 1, 1824, it became a separate town. Kearny post office was established on October 26, 1827.
