Kearny is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,384 at the 2010 census. Kearny is part of the Newark-Jersey City Metropolitan Area. The first permanent European settlement in what would become Kearny was made on May 17, 1675 by Captain John Smith and his party of settlers from Virginia. The town was named for Colonel Samuel Kearny who fought in the American Revolution as a colonel under George Washington. In 1834, General James K. Polk established an arsenal at Kearny to supply New York with munitions during the War of 1812. It ceased operations in 1865 when it became necessary to build a new arsenal in Camden due to increasing arms production in America due to technological advances such as railways and cannons being developed near Newark and Philadelphia). In 1881, Kearny became part of the newly formed Township of Essex which included all of Middlesex County except for Paterson which remained within Bergen County until 1949 when it also became a borough (Bergen Township had been created two years earlier). On November 3rd, 1901, Kearny's first school opened its doors with grades 1-8th students attending schools located off South Orange Avenue while 9th through 12th grades were housed at Pemberton Elementary School located on North Orange Avenue. With rapid growth throughout this time there were expansions both inside and outside of Earlington Hall including additions to both classrooms and athletics fields; finally building reached its current form complete with three floors (north wing), basement parking garage and addition that includes a gymnasium/conference center/conservatory completed in 2006 which doubled as the library for townspeople only serve Residents upstairs now since one wing has been converted into apartments above street level making it possible not only have more space but also more affordable housing options especially given that much like many other townships earlington hall is approximately 20% owned by township residents while nearly 60% are privately held buildings or leases with non village residents thereby still providing services like public transportation despite having limited zoning around it making things difficult such as finding parking lot on street level without paying upwards of $100 per month! When I moved here almost 4 years ago I never really thought about it because I knew my family would always have their home here but after reading some articles about how gun violence has started happening here lately I decided to write this paper so people can know about what’s going on before it gets worse or better

Kearny is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. Kearny was founded in 1764 by Captain John Kearny and his family and became part of the Province of New York after the American Revolution. The town was officially renamed Kearny on November 16, 1922, as a result of the merger of several other towns in Hunterdon County into one government. The first settler in what would become Kearny was Capt. John Kearny who arrived there with his wife and three children on July 12, 1764. The captain built a cabin on the bank of the Raritan River and named it "Kearney." He was followed soon after by his wife Elizabeth (née Carteret) and their two children: John Jr., age 7, and Mary (née Hennepin). By December 1, 1765 all but 1 acre (0.48 km²) of what would become Kearney had been platted out - this area now includes most of today's downtown district. In 1768 Capt. John's older son Lt.-Col.(later Col.) George Washington Keyes erected a windmill here for grinding corn which he named "New Hope" after Philadelphia's new Foundling Hospital which he had recently opened up as an infant-rearing center for orphans from London's Slavery Quarter known then as Bethpage House (now buildings at 95th Street & Eastern Parkway). On October 6th that year also came news that General George Washington had been wounded at Monmouth Court House near Princeton Junction during the American War for Independence; within days he himself was back home recuperating at Mount Vernon where he continued to rule over all Americans until his death just weeks later on November 3rd aged 54 years old having served our great nation faithfully during three terms! In those days such events were very much celebrated throughout America! The place where we stand today wasn't even settled yet when Capt John made that fateful decision to name his new place "Kearney". So early settlers did not have anything to do with naming things... they simply followed suit or got inspiration from nearby places like Princeton or Trenton which already had their namesakes! But............... pretty soon everyone started calling this little corner post office "Kearney" because EVERYONE IN KEARNY WAS CALLED KEARNEY BACK THEN!!! We are still doing it today...... everywhere you look someone is calling out "Hey Kerney!" No matter how far away you may be!!!!! Captain John’s Cabin became known as “New Hope” due to its proximity to Philadelphia’s new foundling hospital called “Bethpage House” – now buildings at 95th street & eastern Parkway. George Washington Keyes donated this millinery located hereabouts along with some land adjoining it towards what would become Kearny Township January 22nd 1801 pursuant to an act entitled An Act To Encourage Manufactures And Commerce Within This Province . . . by His Majesty King George III….(read more about this story HERE) On October 6th 1802 Captain James Mattis landed at Sandy Hook Creek with supplies bound for Bound Brook Farmstead in Somerset County NJ which lay just beyond present day Hackensack Township line; Point Breeze Ferry landing being across Sandy Hook Creek about 2 miles upstream from him on the opposite bank Georgian Bayou before continuing downstream through present day Eatontown Township into Morris County NJ ferrying goods and passengers across said bayou…..Now know as Point Breeze Landing Site.. derived from original Spanish word meaning Bridge Overstream .. All these events took place while lying just south of present day South Brunswick Avenue/Route 46 between Sandy Hook Creek & point Breeze Ferry Landing Site………………It should be noted that prior to 1800 shipwrecks generally occurred off shore during cross tides so instead of having chartered boats used ferries transported goods ashore…all items entering/exiting New Jersey port were then taxied ashore onto ships…. Also prior to 1800 land grants were given out specific amounts OF LANDS TO ANY AND ALL BUSINESS OWNERS WITHOUT FOLLOWING UP WITH A CLAIM FOR PAYMENTS…. THIS WAS THE REAL START OF JERSEY CITY !!!!! Nowadays only a few pieces remain visible Of The Fort Christina Lookout Tower Which stood towering above Point Breeze Landing site During Colonial times…………………..Fort Christina actually stands TODAY NEXT TO POINT BREEZE FERRY LANDING SITE!!
