Kearny was first settled in 1784 by Dutch settlers and has been called "the most important Dutch settlement in New Jersey." The area now known as Kearny was part of Hackensack County until 1834 when it became part of Monmouth County. The community of Kearny grew rapidly due to its location on a natural harbor and its access to water supplies from both rivers. By 1860, the town had over 100 businesses and 1,000 residents. In 1876, local officials approved the construction of a railroad line through Kearny that would bring jobs and commerce to the town. The railroad arrived in 1881 and quickly transformed Kearny into a major economic center with factories and stores lining both banks of the river. Today, Kearney remains an active commercial center with many businesses based in its downtown district including several restaurants, two banks (one national), three hotels/motels, two schools (one public K-12 school and one private K-12 school), four churches (two Baptist and two Methodist), two nightclubs/bars/restaurants, one cannabis dispensary/ grow house/shopsand one hospital within walking distance of its downtown area. Additionally, there are several amateur sports teams which play in various leagues throughout New Jersey including rugby union club rugby United America Inc., baseball team Eastern Shore Mariners LLC., tennis team NJSAC NoHo Tennis Club Inc., golf team Atlantic City Golf Association LLC., autosportscar company All American Racers LLC., ice hockey company HVAC Control Systems Inc.) as well as numerous small businesses which have produced jobs or generated economic activity for nearby residents for many years now!

Kearny is a small town located in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,564 at the 2010 census. Kearny was founded by Dutch settlers in 1758 and named after Brigadier General John Kearny who fought in the American Revolution. The first settler in Kearny was Nicholas de Jong and his family. De Jong organized a ferry service between Kearny and Salem Township on the Delaware River to bring goods upriver. In 1802, Isaac Brock purchased land from Nicholas de Jong for $10 per acre. Brock became one of the area's leading land speculators and developed what would become known as "Brock's Landing." By 1825, $180 had been invested in real estate development in Kearny alone. In 1840, Jotham Latham donated land to the town for use as an educational institution which would later be renamed "Kearny Academy". A post office called Kearney was established in 1837, but it did not take full form until 1861 when it was moved from Salem Township to Mercer County. In 1850, there were only 7 residents living in Kearney; by 1860 its population had grown to 20+. During World War II, many local businesses participated in the production of munitions including GAF Corporation which manufactured ammunition for RAF air-defense systems during World War II; also present during this time were Armoury Furniture Company (now part of IKEA) and Wurster & Sons Paper Merchants (later Wurster Paper Products). On September 15th 1946 William Fenton opened shop number 1 at 4123 Park Avenue Northeast serving as America's first self-service paper market where customers could purchase wrapping paper products such as tissues or napkins directly from merchants without going into a store
Kearny was founded in 1795 by Captain John Kearny and his men as a trading post on the Newark River. In 1825, it became a town, and in 1834, it was elevated to a city.
