The Keansburg Arsenal, located in Keansburg, New Jersey was founded on May 12th, 1795 and is still in use today. The arsenal was initially used to store munitions and artillery. It later became the home of the New Jersey Volunteers during the American Revolution. In 1814, the armory was purchased by George Washington and it served as his presidential palace from 1800-1809. The village had a population of only eighty people when it became part of Burlington County on July 1, 1776. In 1814, Captain John Kean and his family bought two lots in what is now Keansburg from Jacob Rea for $1,000 dollars. They built a home there which they called "The Dutchman's Castle". In 1827, Captain John Kean's son William married Anna (née Haughey) Kappenheimer who had moved to America from Germany with her family shortly before he did. They raised four children here including William Jr., Augustus P., May Kappenheimer and Emma Farrandt (known as Fifi). The first post office inKeansburg was established on November 1, 1821 under the name "Dundalk". It changed its name to "Keansburgh" on October 25th, 1825 after Major General James Hewitt acquired the land where it stood on December 3rd of that year from Colonel Tryon Gibbs for $2,500 dollars. On February 5th 1865, during theAmerican Civil War Confederate Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest fought an engagement near present-day Keansburg while advancing north along Route 9 towards Camden town limits; this action marked one of three engagements between Union forces and Confederate troops in that battle alone resulting in over 100 killed/injured or captured soldiers and officers including Forrest himself On January 13th 1920 United States Senator Robert Taft visitedKeANSBURGduring his campaign for President of the United States - one day after his victory over Alfred E Smith at Monmouth Park racecourse In 1923 Mayor James J Madden proposed building a new civic center adjacent to present day High School property within the boundaries of what would become known as South Park Plaza; this proposal however failed to gain much attention until Congressman James M Kennedy announced plans to build a new courthouse annexe opposite Main Street upon becoming mayor In January 1984 following passage of NJ Statute 4659 - also known as The Madden Plan - which designated South Park Plaza as surplus real estate subject to development by local governments without federal financial assistance

That same year also saw the opening of Keansburgh's first post office which served residents until 1865 when township mail service began operation through Morristown Hall (now Morristown Municipal Airport). In 1868-69 Philadelphia A&M football team played its inaugural game against Princeton University at Broad Street Grounds whereupon Princeton disbanded their football program two years later due to lack of support from then Governor Andrew Johnson whom they had supported during their previous season’s play against Rutgers University. In 1875–76 Samuel French opened his new grocery store at 376 Main Street within sight of what is now KEANSBURGH COLLEGE with resultant economic development that has continued up through today’s times including numerous restaurant chains such as Starbuck’s Coffee & Tea Store since its inception back in 1984!

Keansburg was founded by John Keans in 1724. It became a borough in 1868 and was merged into Paterson in 1923.
