The first European settlers in Keansburg were Dutch and English farmers who began arriving in 1714. The early history of Keansburg revolves around manufacturing and farming. Today, Keansburg's economy revolves around its location as a bedroom community for Paterson and its association with Rutgers University. The area that now makes up Keansburg was originally swampy land which was drained by means of ditches, canals and rivers in the late 18th century. This enabled development of mills which became one of the main economic enginesof the town during the 19th century. In 1825, Donelson & Company founded a flour mill on what is now Main Street in what is today Keansburg Township; this mill continued to operate until 1870. From 1825 until 1951 it produced flour for local merchants and families who contributed to the growth of Keansburg during that time period including many prominent figures such as Henry Ford, Cornelius Vanderbilt II and Edwin Hubble. In addition to its agricultural production, Keansburgh also became known for its brewing industry starting about 1840 when James Dolan opened his first brewery here producing light beers under his Dolan Brewery name. That company ceased operations in 1922 but left an lasting legacy on the town with their product still being popular today including The Keg Coaster at PPL Park (formerly Penn State Stadium). Other notable businesses that operated during this time include Jansen's Pharmacy which closed down in 1978 after more than 60 years in business; Stroud's Ice Cream Parlor which operated from 1898 until 1984; and Mrkee's Barber Shop which opened its doors on Main Street in 1915 before becoming an 8-screen movie theater chain with locations throughout New Jersey prior to closing down in 1998 after more than 50 years operation! After World War II grew increasingly scarce resources led to a declinein manufacturing jobs throughout America while demand for goods exported soared due to postwar suburban growth across New Jersey however there were some exceptions like Hoechst Corporation who founded several factories here including one near Pocono Lake that manufactured paper products before moving them back east where they remain todayproducing consumer electronics such as digital cameras and camcorders among others Additionally other large companies such as Bethlehem Steel Corporation established themselves here over ensuing decades making heavy investments both mentally and physically ensuring ample employment opportunities even through difficult times Finally throughout much of recent decades there have been sporadic efforts by various organizations like Economic Development Organization (EDO) - formed in 1997 following 9/11 attacks - aimed at attracting new businesses or restoring older ones within the township providing tax breaks or other assistance all without result though occasional Hope For Change rallies are held periodically

As of 2018, there are about 60 residents living in Keansburg who are all registered with the Township Committee for Community Affairs (TCCA). The township was once home to many manufacturing businesses such as sheet metal fabrication plants and foundry shops as well as agricultural businesses such as a sawmill and corn cribs. Today, only a few remnant businesses still operate within the township; however some have managed to keep their doors open for generations continue serving their communities through family tradition or entrepreneurshipism
Keansburg, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,927 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark-Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Keansburg were Dutch traders in 1664. The town was founded by Benjamin Kean on April 12, 1795 as an agricultural village near what is today the intersection of Route 29 and Routes 5 and 9. In 1802, Kean became the Township's first Mayor. On July 1, 1807,Keansburg became a Village when it had a population of just six people. On November 3rd 1823 John Bendix bought out Benjamin Kean's shares in the village for $2 million dollars (equivalent to $118 million in ). He named his new investment "Bendixstown", after himself and his father-in-law Cornelius Bendix who had also donated land to the township. In 1824 Bethlehem Steel Corporation opened its works here which soon led to increased demand for goods produced here including shoes and clothing made from natural materials such as silkworm cocoons or woolen yarns obtained from sheepskin processes rather than using expensive synthetic fabrics then being imported from England or France. This prosperity created job opportunities for many locals and contributed to increasing support for local government services like education and public health that continue into this day. In 1906 Borough President John J. Rooney appointed Samuel Szeliga as Director of Parks & Recreation after seeing him work successfully with CreateAthletic Foundation creating open space around Easton High School that has become known as Park Slope. The economic decline of steel production during World War II led to major reductions in jobs here but also significant investments by businesses in new industries like textiles which continued until about 1990 when manufacturing production declined again. By 2000 only 6% of workforce still worked here primarily within transportation related fields.
