Kean and his brother-in-law Ebenezer Sears. The paper's heyday came from 1846 to 1849 when it had a circulation of over 100 copies a day. In 1850, the "Keansburg Democrat" also started publishing. By 1861, there were six gun magazines in town with a combined circulation of 1,500 copies per day.
Keansburg is a small town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Union metropolitan area. The name "Keansburg" is derived from English settlers' meaning of "a place where corn (maize) can be grown." The first town meeting was held on September 10, 1795 in what is now Keansburg Township. On February 12, 1802, the township was formed from parts of adjoining Union Township and it retained its name until 1840 when it became Keansboro Township. The first school in Keansburg was built in 1814 by Reverend David Waddell and Mrs. Elizabeth Stroud; it taught children between the ages of five and thirteen years old. In 1823, Drury's Tavern opened as one of the few places where people could purchase refreshments before dinner time for those who worked in nearby Newark or Uniontown. On July 1, 1830, an act was passed by the New Jersey Legislature which designated Keansburg as a site for a new county seat to be established in Sussex County due to growing population density and lack of space within existing townships. The new county seat would be known as East Brunswick until 1874 when it moved to Trenton due to cost overruns with the construction of the Trenton Railroad. In 1870-71 local farmers started raising chickens on their properties around present day village Square; these early eggs were later turned into bacon by founder Levi Coffin who named his business after this process - he had named his wife Virginia after one of these early pioneers - keensburger bacon being her maiden name). At that time there were only three homes in town: Drury's Tavern (now called The Moon), John Ahern's House (now used as a Stoplight), and Abram Rice's House (now used as an apartment complex). Today there are over 150 residences within walking distance of each other including many historical buildings not mentioned above! From 1880-1892/3 through 1916/17 there were also several breweries located throughout town: Pemberton Brewery on Main Street opposite current day Village Square; First National Brewery on South street east; Second National Brewery & Lumberyard at 20 Broadwalk south near Center Avenue; Third National Brewery at Market Place north side across from Borough Hall; Fourth National brewery at School Road east side near post office building today... though all closed down during prohibition period most likely because they did not meet Prohibition requirements such as having no lead paint or wood alcohol content... All but 2 breweries reopened during Prohibition era but none continue operation currently! Today Keansburg has a full line grocery store chain presence along with numerous restaurants including Italian restaurants Mc Donalds and Dunkin' Donuts inside Village Square shopping mall while Borough Hall still houses two large American Legion Postes providing social/political commentary for residents

The town was founded in 1798 by John Keans and his wife Rebecca as a small community on the southern border of Hunterdon County. The first settler was George Littlefield, who arrived in 1799. By 1800, Keansburg had developed into a thriving farming village with two churches and 30 homes. In 1804, the village became an incorporated town under the name of Keansburg Township after John Kean, its original founder. In 1838, when Hunterdon County was divided into three parts based on racial lines following the American Civil War (the section including Keansburg being controlled by Union forces), portions ofKeansburg were included within Easton Township and portions within Newark Township. With the establishment of Camden Corporation in 1851, all township borders were revised to includeKeansburg except for residential areas located east of Route 9 inside Newark Township boundaries which continued to be part of Easton Township until 1889 when they were annexed by Camden Corporation as well. In 1927, during its annexation by Camden Corporation it merged with other townships in that corporation to form the current borough of Camden; however this merger did not take effect until 1968 because Rutgers University thenowned both Westwood Borough and Cherry Hill Borough which were also absorbed into Camden Corporation at that time). As part of city redevelopment efforts starting in 1984 after Hurricane Agnes destroyed most property within central Camden - including much of what now makes up KeANSBURG - all but 10 percent or so of town residents were forced from their homes over a period stretching from late 1985 to early 1987 due to demolition and reconstruction projects throughout downtown core resulting in an almost total loss or destructionof buildings dating back over 100 years; however many residents who had evacuated returned soon afterward (most notably through efforts led by Mayor Thomas Menino) making KEANSBURG one of few remaining places where permanent evacuees still live today albeit subject to restrictions imposed by city officials such as high water levels which have required more than one evacuation per year since 2001
