The society continued to operate until it disbanded in 1835. In 1838, American astronomer James K. Pickering donated his telescope to Keansburg as a gift. This allowed residents of Keansburg and surrounding areas to view celestial objects up close without having to leave their homes. In 1861, the first movie was filmed in Keansburg when a projector was set up on Main Street and projection screens were placed throughout the town. During World War II, Keansburg served as an airfield for Allied planes engaged in Operation Overlord. During this time, many businessesowners donations were made to support the war effort including giving freebinoculars or adding free stock at their stores. After the war ended, many people decided that binoculars weren't necessary anymore and stopped buying them from merchants; however, some continue to be used today by locals who enjoy watching nature at its finest from their porch or patio doors!

Keansburg is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,010 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City metropolitan area. The name "Keansburg" is derived from English settlers John and Abigail Kean who bought land in 1795 on which to build a community. The first post office in Keansburg was established in 1824. In 1870, the village became a borough and then a city after becoming an independent municipality under New Jersey statehood. The population of Keansburg increased rapidly during the 1920s and 1930s as new housing developments were constructed along Route 9 north of town; this growth led to the nickname "Middletown ofNJ". However, by 1940 only 2% of the population still lived there while most residents now live in other parts of New Jersey within commuting distance of Keansburg (primarily Paterson). In 1951, Keanssburg became one of two townships within Middlesex County that were added to Rahway Township when Rahway Township was created from portions of both Scranton and Hudson townships. Since its incorporation as a township on April 14, 1924, Keansburg has had nine mayors: Harry Hargrave (1924-27), Dudley J. Brown (1927-32), Ernest Jansen (1932-35), James Fenton ( 1935-41), Franklin Baily ( 1941-44), Walter Condon (1945-50) and Joseph Dwecka Jr.(1950-54). The current mayor is Paul Arazi with term set for 2020 through 2024

Keansburg is a small town located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The population was 1,816 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Newark-Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1797 by Captain John Kean and his family. The first settler to arrive in what is now Keansburg was Ezekiel Frye who arrived on November 3, 1797. Prior to that, there were two other families who settled near where Keansburg stands today: the Grooms and the Howes. Keansburg experienced some early growth due to its location on the Hackensack River which made it an important transportation hub for goods moving from New York City to Philadelphia and back. In 1814, Nicholas Christoffel built a gristmill here which began grinding corn for local farmers until 1835 when a larger mill was built by Nicholas's son Peter. In 1839, John Wanamaker came from Newark and started trading goods with local farmers along the Hackensack River Valley. He soon realized that this area had potential as a commercial center because of its natural resources such as coal and timber. He named his new settlement after himself - Wanamakerstown - in order to distinguish it from other settlements around him that were named after others such as West Orange or Easton (which were also later renamed). As business grew more vigorous, so did development in Keansburg proper; including construction of homes, churches and businesses throughout the late 19th century while still maintaining its rural character up until well into the 20th century. During World War II Keansburg served as headquarters for Third Army during Japan’sinvasion of Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941; during this time many key figures including General George Marshall met here including Emperor Hirohito! Following World War II, much of downtownKeansburg became commercialized with various stores opening up along Main Street between Ridge Avenue and Broadview Avenue while remaining residential through most of the 1960s until finally becoming nearly all commercialized again following Hurricane Sandy in 2012 which destroyed many homes within city limits particularly along Ridge Ave where much rebuilding has taken place recently . Today KEARNSBURG features primarily high tech businesses with limited retail offerings although several smaller locally owned businesses continue to thrive
The Keansburg area was first settled in the early 17th century. The first tavern on the site was founded by Captain John Cook in 1676. By 1702, a small community had formed around what is now Keansburg, comprised of about 100 people. In 1763, General James Grant's army passed through the area while on its way to battle at Saratoga and stopped near Keansburg. The town was renamed "Grantown" after General James Grant and his troops were staying there. In 1814, during the War of 1812, USS Constitution (1811) took part in an attempted raid against British forces at Kingston Landing on Long Island Sound. One night, Constitution sailors managed to gain entrance into a British lighthouse and set off explosives inside before escaping back out to sea. This attack is sometimes considered one of the most successful naval raids of the war. In 1825, construction began on what is now known as Market Street Bridge over the Delaware River between Grantsville and Morristown. The bridge became operational in 1830 and remained in use until it was replaced by Interstate 95 in 1991. In 1847, American President George Washington visited Keansburg for three days while he was touring New Jersey during his Farewell Address tour across America. During that visit, he inspected several mills located in the town including those built by Samuel Morse Sr., father of modern telecommunications pioneer Samuel RFK Morse Jr.. On December 12, 1865 Union general Ulysses S. Grant landed at Sandy Hook Bay with his army following their victory at Appomattox Court House two days earlier. While Generals Grant and Sherman were visitingKeansburg, they ordered all civilian shops open so that supplies could be brought into camp without delay; this contributed to an immediate increase in local businesses' revenue as well as creating a sense of community spirit that continues to this day among locals and visitors alike.
