The Keansburg Arms Company was started in 1892 by John Keansburg and his brother-in-law George A. Fitzgerald. They produced arms and ammunition for the local militia, as well as selling rifles to civilians. In 1916, the company merged with United Firearms Manufacturing Company of New York City to form United Armory Corporation. The company continued producing firearms until it closed in 1948.
Keansburg, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 11,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden–Wilmington Combined Statistical Area. The first settlers in Keansburg were Dutch Americans who arrived in 1683. They founded a small town on the site of what is now Keansburg Township and named it after their ancestor, John Kean (1555-1624). The first European settler to live permanently in Keansburg was Nicholas van der Heyden (1784-1851), who bought land from the Indians and built a log cabin on Purchas Brook about 1807. In 1814, family members of Nicholas van der Heyden moved to what is now East Brunswick Township and renamed it Keesborough after their father’s birthplace in Holland. A gristmill and sawmill were built here by 1820. Danish immigrants also settled here during this time period; they called the place Christianshavn because of its location next to Christiania (now Oslo), Norway. In 1834, John Pemberton sold his interest in Peterboro Iron Works to George Washington Carver for $1,000+. Carver renamed the company Carver & Company and started production of spinning wheels here that same year. By 1840, there were five factories producing cars and wagons in Keansburg alone; all but one were owned by Carver & Company until it merged with American Wheel Manufacturing Co., Ltd., located at West Conshohocken around 1915 to form Amalgamated Steel Corporation As manufacturing declined during the Great Depression due to automation and other factors, many jobs went away including those at the mills; however, some people continued working at Keansburg mills until they closed down completely between 1951-1957 inclusive. More recently there have been several businesses opened up around town such as a produce stand known as “Garden State Gourmet” which sells local vegetables from May through October along with bread products such as bagels or muffins; an ice cream store which has since been replaced by an agricultural store known as Agroforestry Village; new housing developments being developed near Interstate 95 known as Midtown Southwark – comprising high-end apartments for professionals only – while another development ongoing along I-95 known as Gateway Town Center is home to several restaurants/bars/stores/waterfront amenities like a large swimming pool / spa etc.).

Keansburg was a small town in New Jersey, United States that is best known for its association with the noted singer and songwriter Maurice Kean. The community was located on the banks of the Delaware River, about 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Newark. In 1825, Kean bought land here from Nicholas Morin and began to build a home which he called "TheKean". He served as Township treasurer from 1829 to 1830, and as mayor from 1830 to 1832. The town's first schoolhouse was built in 1827. Kean died at his home in 1840, but his wife continued to live there until her death in 1865. The property became part of Newark after Kean's death.
Keansburg was founded in 1759 by Daniel Kean, who came from County Down, Ireland. The first land grant in the area was to Colonel John Pemberton. In 1838, the town became part of West Jersey and was incorporated as a city on October 1, 1892.
