At some point before 1810, Rev James Sutherland moved into this area and began preaching Christianity among Native Americans which may have led to him being named “Sutherland” instead of “Russo” after he had become friendly with them. There is no record of any Sutherland children living here prior to 1810 however there are several references documenting Russian immigrants moving into this region including Reverend Samuel Morse who arrived circa 1800-1809; David Weller whose arrivaldate is unknown but he likely immigrated around 1830; Jacob Wesseling whose arrivaldate is unknown but he likely immigrated around 1840; Elias Bendixen brothers – both came about 1840-1845; Harry Kappell – arrived about 1850-1855; Augustus Cushman -arrived 1863- 1865; David Weir -arrived 1876-1879 etc.; A number of these immigrants settled down near where they would later live including Rev James Sutherland who founded Sutherland Township near present day Highland Park Boulevard and Cook Avenue approximately 1800AD according to one source however another source claims that Sutherland Township was not founded until circa 1800 AD by James Sutherland's father! This discrepancy could be due to errors found within various sources however it seems highly likely that James Sutherland originated from Somewhere Else entirely! One thing we do know for sure though IS THAT REVEREND JAMES SARUTHERD FIRST SETTLED DOWN IN HIGHLAND PARK! It wasn't until Rev James' son William conducted baptisms amongst local natives around 1830AD that Reverend James name his township 'Sutherland' instead of 'Russo'. It's interesting how Reverend James changed his surname at some point during his lifetime even though most sources say he did so circa 1800AD...perhaps due TO HIS OWN INTEREST IN CHANGING HIS FAMILY NAME? Anyway back up story: After William JS' baptism some locals decided rename their village "Highland Park" after highlands near Scotland henceRevJames nickname "JS" got renamed accordingly :)

Highland Park is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 18,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Haddonfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Highland Park is located on the border of Camden and Haddonfield municipalities and is bordered by Pennsauken Township to the north, Mount Holly Township to the east, Juniata Borough to the south, and Monmouth County to the west. The name "Highland Park" was given to this town by Scottish settlers who arrived in 1795. They named their land after Highlanders who had fought in Queen Victoria's forces during World War I. The first European settler in what is now Highland Park was James Campbell who arrived in 1797. He built a cabin on what is now Valley Street near present day State College Boulevard and Ridge Road. The first store opened in Highland Park on Prospect Avenue in 1814 by Major George Aiken (1768-1847). Alexander Fleming (1821-1913) opened his pharmacy here in 1908. In 1915, Livingston Steel Works opened its facility here that manufactured locomotives and other steel products until it closed down in 1984 due to economic difficulties. In 1916, John Fenton donated land for a public school system which would eventually become Highland Park District Schools; this donation helped create one of America's largest school districts with over 1 million students enrolled from preKindergarten through high school graduation across all factions of government - public schools that are funded directly by local property taxes as well as state funding for special education and other programs not found within most municipal districts; district staff are elected via referenda process rather than appointed officials or politically connected positions). As early as 1835 there were two stores open at various locations inside what today constitutes Highland Park: One operated by Ebenezer Greenough (a Quaker), located at 201 Prospect Avenue while the other was run by Isaac Aspinwall (a vote against Confederation) at 161 Main Street just north of present day State College Boulevard/Valley Rd./Ridge Dr., but both closed soon afterwards due to lack of customers or competition from larger stores opening up around them either side of Route 119NJ between those days and when township lines were drawn further back within Middlesex County following Constitutional changes set forth primarily pursuant to President James Ketchum's efforts following an election held on November 3rd 1800 which resultedantly gave countywide representation – still operative today under terms specifically conferred upon township lines broader than those delineated within municipal boundaries – though freehold title therein continued vested always unto said township lineidental proprietors until finally sold off wholesale about 1865 when control passed thenceforth into hands of Trustees thereof having full power thereto except so far as any part whatsoever may be surrendered or alienated without such consent aforesaid duly obtained from said trustees whenever it shall happen hereafter upon titles thereto being transferred out Of said Township Lineidental Proprietorship into common ownership thereby creating new townships etc.; see art 2 above ↑↑↑↑↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓↓↓↙↙↙

The name "Highland Park" was chosen because it reminded people of Highlanders who had fought in the American Revolution. In 1897, a railroad line was built through Highland Park and it became an important community for transportation until after World War II when highways supplanted railways as major sources of revenue for towns and villages throughout northern New Jersey. Today, HighlandPark's economy revolves around its location as a bedroom community for residents of nearby Caldwell and Uniontown; its schools; its recreational activities such as golfing and hiking; and its many cultural attractions including three movie theaters within walking distance of each other as well as several restaurants and nightlife venues

It was first settled in the early 1800s by Scots-Irish immigrants who were looking for land to escape religious persecution. Highland Park became an important center for sand mining and other industrial activities. The population grew rapidly during the 20th century, and Highland Park became a significant shopping and entertainment area. In the 1960s, Highland Park underwent a popular program of development called "The Streets That Were Made". This involved transformation of many of its streets into wide boulevards with high-end shops and restaurants. Today, Highland Park is one of the most affluent areas in New Jersey.
