Highland Park is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,979 at the 2010 census. Highlands Park is located on the southeastern shore of Long Island Sound and is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. The first people to live in Highland Park were the Lenape Indians who were active in hunting and fishing activities around what is now Highland Park. The Lenape left in 1764 after they were forced out of their traditional territory by English settlers. In 1836, John Q. Dewey named a portion of his estate "Highland Park" after Scottish Highlanders who had helped him purchase land in Bergen County from native Teutonic Germans. In 1887, Rev. Jameson Mclntyre donated land east of the park for public school development which became Highland Park Public Schools (now part of East Brunswick Township). The first post office was established at Highland Park on July 25, 1839, under the name Deerfield Beach Township; it was discontinued on March 14th, 1840 due to its own population growth and one month's notice periods required by then township law governing post offices. On October 6th 1850, HighlandsPark replaced Deerfield Beach Township as part of an enlarged Bergen County with new boundaries that included Asbury Heights and Paramus along with parts of Hackensack and Turnersville northeastward to Raritan Creek Valley until all but Asbury Heights were annexed into Passaic County on April 10th 1865; however, portions northward to Raritan Creek Valley remained within HighlandsPark until 1981 when they too were annexed into East Brunswick Township; The remaining areas northward to Indian creek valley remain unincorporated community territory within HighlandsPark today as well as portions east-northeast including most of Ardsley which forms Elizabethtown Borough today while much of residential area between Indian creek valley and Passaic River lies now within Elizabethtown Borough also known as West Paterson together with some commercial/industrial buildings currently located near Lakewood Cemetery across from Rutgers University also comprising this current unincorporated community today known as "West Paterson".

Highland Park is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,869 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the borough of Morris since 2006. In 1814, Scottish immigrants James and John McLaren settled in what would become Highland Park. They built a gristmill on the Hackensack River and named their settlement after their home county of Perthshire, Scotland. In 1825, they sold the mill to John Madden and his brother-in-law Arthur Hasbrouck for $2,000. The Hasbroucks operated it until 1931 when it was purchased by J J McCloskey who renamed it Highland Park Mills Company. After McCloskey's death in 1945, the company passed through several hands until it was bought by The Trust Company of America in 1978 which made it its corporate headquarters until 1990 when its offices were moved to Morristown Township because of redevelopment plans for that township . According to the United States Census Bureau, the town had a total area of 2 square miles (5 km²), all of it land. The Hackensack River forms much of Highland Park's eastern border and flows through much of its center; however some areas are located far away from either riverbank. Many historic homes still stand within boundaries defined by water: Tryon Road runs along one side while Ridgeway Avenue skirts both banks just south of where Highland Park Center now stands – this street is also called Old Tryon Road because many pioneer settlers lived there before moving out into more spacious surroundings on Ridgeway Avenue eastward towards East Rutherford . As a result of suburbanization over time and increased traffic volume on Route 80 between Morristown Township and Newark Liberty University (now Rutgers University), Highway 8 became increasingly two-lane as traffic decreased around intersections with other highways near downtown Morristown Township such as Journal Square or Lake Shore Boulevard/Route 9A – these intersections have since been reworked so that both lanes are open at all times except during rush hour Government Street/Old Route 7 functions as an interchange connecting I-280 with I-95 just northwest of town center
Highland Park was first settled in 1766 by Scotsmen. The area now comprising Highland Park was originally part of Hunterdon County. In 1814, the Township of Highland Park was created from portions of New Brunswick and Morris counties. The township Growths to include what is now Highland Park on October 1, 1838. On April 12, 1843, a fire destroyed most of the town center and much of the surrounding countryside, but it did not cause any damage to the town itself. In 1860, the borough of Highland Park was form from parts of Parsippany and Haddon Heights Boroughs. In 1912, John Fenton Phelps donated money for a park in Highland Park which became known as Phelps Field after him. In 1924-1925, an addition to the park were two tennis courts named after Mr. Phelps and his wife Nellie (Lang). On July 8th 1956 a large tornado touched down in rural Morris County just outside of Highlandersvillage destroying all but one house within 5 miles while leaving over 100 people dead or missing including many children who were playing inside their homes at home when they collapsed during this powerful storm; this event is still considered one of Jersey’s worst natural disasters ever! highlanderparknj
