Highland Park is a borough in New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,694 at the 2010 Census. Highland Park is one of two Bergen County municipalities that are both located on the Hackensack River. The name "Highland Park" comes from the old Scots-Irish word "highlander" meaning "highlanders." The first settler in what is now Highland Park was John Baird, who bought land west of Hackensack in 1795. In 1825, James Crouse and his family founded a small town east of Highland Park on land they had purchased from the Indians. In 1869, J.P. Morgan established a cattle ranch in what is now Highland Park andrewscoopersranchyards. In 1870, he donated $1 million to improve public transportation in New Jersey and named it for himself and his wife Alexandra Hamilton Morgan (1841-1920). In 1888, Ayscough House was built as part of the Hudson-Bergen Railway's line from Paramus to Bayonne; it remains one of NJ's most well-known landmarks. In 1893, Highland Park became an incorporated municipality with its own government under the name of Highlands Borough Council; this change came about because Highlands Borough Council did not have jurisdiction over all of Bergen County proper which included Paramus and Passaic Counties north of Hackensack River. Highlands Borough Council disbanded in 1996 when merger between Bergen County municipalities resulted in high levels of competition among their municipal services combined into one agency - Community Services Administration - which provides all city services including zoning bylaws/ regulations; street maintenance; trash pickup; parks & rec.; fire suppression; community education programs (KIDS FIRST! program); social service programs (elderly assistance); library services (the Ulster Free Library system). Today much of what made Highlands Borough so special has been lost within the boundaries defined by Community Services Administration: although there are several small businesses left downtown after being taken over by CSA such as Bespoke Restaurant & Spirits since 2007 and D'Angelo Pizza since 2003 (formerly Donatelli's Pizzeria), large tracts surrounding central business district have been redeveloped into housing developments such as Elmwood Row Village[4] or even strip malls like Plains Mall(2005), Northpark(2006)[5], etc., taking away many acres that used to be open space for hiking, playing ball or just relaxing around dusk or dawn before hitting their homes again for work or evening relaxation purposes during daytime hours only .

Highland Park is a town in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,412 at the 2010 census. Highland Park is part of the New York Metropolitan Area. It is bordered by Kearny to the north and west, Elizabeth to the east, and Paramus to the south. The first Europeans to visit what is now Highland Park were French traders who set up trading posts in 1701 on land that later became part of Newark. The area was originally under Native American control before being claimed by English colonists as part of West Jersey in 1664. In 1714, John Woolridge founded a small settlement called Woolridgeville near present-day Fort Lee after purchasing a tract of land from the Lenape Indians. The community grew rapidly thanks to its fertile soil and friendly natives who supplied them with goods such as maize and flour for their mills. In 1737, Woolridgeville became known as Highland Park due to its elevated position overlooking the Hackensack River Valley. In 1825, Dutch Settlers arrived in what is now Highland Park from Amboy Township and began farming land around what would become their village of Old Bergen (now Teaneck). By 1830 they had built a mill which continues production today – one of only two remaining gristmills in New Jersey still operational today! Over time this village gradually amalgamated with other settlements nearby until it formed what is now Highland Park Township on February 14th, 1869! By 1870 there were over 100 people living in Highland Park Township – more than any other township in Middlesex County! After years of growth and development, the township’s population reached 30000 by 1915! Despite this rapid growth rate however, some residents felt they were not getting enough attention from government officials – feeling like they didn’t have a voice or representation within their own townhall-esque governing body. This led to some heated debates between citizens over various issues such as zoning laws and budget allocations; ultimately leading to petitions being filed against several decisions made by township leaders during this time period including an increase in taxes which were unpopular among many residents. Despite these protests though, township leaders continued making strides forward despite strong opposition from residents; moving towards becoming more democratic through amendments to its charter which granted greater autonomy within its own governance structure; culminating in establishment of a Town Council composed entirely of residents instead of locally elected officials back in 1978! Today much has changed since 1978 however: membership on council has decreased slightly while tax receipts have increased markedly – likely due partly to large developments taking place outside our borders (such as Seaside Heights) but also due largely to our vibrant Cultural District located right near our center where arts & crafts enthusiasts can findSplendor throughout all seasons!
