Highland Park is a borough in New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,541 at the 2010 census. Highland Park is located on the eastern edge of Jersey City and is bordered by Hackensack to the north, Midtown Manhattan to the east, and Elizabeth to the south. The borough was formed from part of Newark County in 1874. The area that makes up Highland Park today has been inhabited for over 10,000 years according to archeological evidence dug up during construction of Robert Moses' Unisphere project in nearbyElizabeth. One early resident was Chief Tecumseh who lived near present-day Livingston Avenue and Maple Street from 1795 until his death in 1807. There are several sites which date back thousands of years including an ancient petroglyphs discovered at Prospect Hill Road and Ridgefield Avenue which date back as early as 4500 BCE. In 1722 French forces under Marquis de Lafayette attacked Fort Mercer on Morristown Heights before retreating into Canada; this event became known as "the Battle of Princeton." A plaque marking where Lafayette's force camped can still be seen today on West Bergen Avenue just north of present-day Morningside Heights Drive. In 1727 British troops laid siege to Valley Forge before withdrawing after a 7 day battle which resulted in four American killed and thirteen wounded when a cannonball detonated prematurely inside their encampment while they were eating their dinner; this event became known as "the Battle of Princeton". At some point between 1800-1810 there may have been a small community called Scotswood located near what is now East Rutherford Boulevard and Olden Lane which may have included some homes overlooking Monmouthshire Lake according to local history books however no trace remains or any archeological evidence exists Furthermore it has also been theorized that Scotswood might have consisted only of Indian labourers working for Dutch colonists during this time period although there is no concrete proof either way whatsoever Additionally there are several theories circulated about how Highland Park got its name however none of them seem 100% confirmed despite numerous attempts by historians over the years Some believe that because the word "highland" appears nowhere else within North America besides Scotland it must derive from one or more specific location such as Highbury in London or even Sleatness on Islay Inlet - both locations being close enoughto Edinburgh that traffic would have drawn attention thereto according to some sources However others maintain that Gaelic words like "hidh" (hill) originated independently throughout Scotland before reaching Ulster via Norse traders so nothing could account for its presence therein Also given how similar English words like Hightown (mentioned earlier) & Haltwhistle (mentioned later) also originate from Scotland & Northern England respectively it's highly likely that another word related to highlands – such as haldane (cape), broch (fortress), broch hill (hill), brochpark (park), & burghaland(borough) – arrived here first& took on Scottish / Englishnotations before reaching NJ Finally given how much territory Holyhead Peninsula covers (& particularly Arran Island,) it's very possible that another word related to highlands too – such as lairachan (isle), lochdanachan (lake), lochmorganachan (loch MORGAN,) & lochruidhichan ([LochRUIDHICHAN]) – made an appearance along with Gaelicwords here first As you can see there are many possibilities why Highland Park got its name but without any concrete proof one way or another it remains mystery till today!

Highland Park is a borough in New Jersey, United States. It was formed on April 14, 1834, from the portions of Potter Township and Westwood Township which were annexed by Bergen County. Highland Park is located in the Northern Jersey metropolitan area. As of the 2010 Census, the borough's population was 27,539. The name "Highland Park" comes from Scots-Irish origin and means "hill country." The first permanent settler in Highland Park was James Robertson who arrived on October 3, 1795. He built a cabin on what is now Adams Boulevard near present day Roosevelt Boulevard. James Robertson's cabin served as the nucleus for what would become Highland Park. In 1800, John Hall founded the first post office in Highland Park with two stores and one house at 329 Main Street. In 1834, Potter Township and Westwood Township were annexed by Bergen County and became part of Highland Park. On April 14th of that year, HighlandPark was formally established when all three municipalities voted to merge into one entity under one police department called “Police Department No 1” The merger took place without any debate or opposition from either side as there was much confusion over where each town should put their new police department since they had different borders. Headquartered at what would eventually become Police Headquarters until 1908 when it moved to its current location at 215 Prospect Avenue (then known as Third Street) Highlands Park enjoyed some prosperity during its early years but gradually lost ground to other more rapidly growing municipalities within Bergen County including Passaic City and Paramus Boroughs . However , through hard work by both municipal officials and community volunteers throughout the years , Highlands park has managed to maintain close ties with its rural namesake even going so far as to celebrate its centennial year in 2013 . Today’s residents are proud members of their community which has seen many changes over time but remains committed to providing quality public services including law enforcement while preserving its intimate feel
Highland Park was founded in 1884 by the brothers John and James Highland. The area now includes parts of Jersey City, Newark, and Paterson. In 1915, the Highland Park Company built a dam on the Raritan River to generate power for local mills. The company also developed a large agricultural acreage in the park.
