Highland Park is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It is the namesake of Highland Park Township and City. The population was 7,596 at the 2010 census. Highland Park has two schools: Highland Park High School and Highland Park Middle School. The first gun to be manufactured in Highland Park was an 18th century muzzleloader called the “Horse Pistol”. This pistol was made by George Armstrong Crouse, who lived in what is now known as Easton Township and had manufacturing rights to produce pistols in the township from 1792 until 1800. In 1847, William Hogg of Scotch Plains purchased land southeast of present-day Highland Park and began producing firearms there under the name of “Hoggar” Rifle & Gun Works. The first rifle produced there was a .38 caliber Model 1847 rifle that weighed just 9 pounds and cost $25 to purchase or $5 per month to keep in service. Premiere Firearms Manufacturing Inc., which was founded by Edward Jablonski in 1928 as Pioneer Firearms Manufacturing Corporation (PFM), became sole proprietorship of Jablonski Arms Company on October 1, 1938 after he successfully lobbied for passage of Assembly Bill No. 281 (S640). On July 8, 1951 PFM merged with American armament company Samson Aircraft Corporation to form Premier Armaments Corporation (PARC). In 1959 PARC merged with Remington Arms Company to become Remington Rand Incorporated (RNA). On January 1, 1984 RNA merged with Brownells plc when Brownells acquired Perot Industries Incorporated's firearms business including its stockarms division which were then sold off as separate entities - Brownells Magazines Ltd., Brownells Ammunition Ltd.,Brownells Firearms Co., Winchester Ammunition Corp., Vortex Weapons Systems LLC - making Vortex the world's second largest manufacturer of handguns behind Glock AG

In 1814, George Washington Woodward purchased 1,600 acres (636 hectares) of land east of present-day Highland Park from furman for $15 per acre. This purchase included part of what would become Englewood Cliffs. Woodward became known as "theFather of Newark". He developed this area into one of the most upscale communities in New Jersey with fashionable row homes and large tracts of forested land surrounding it.. In 1825 he donated 1/3 mile (1 km) north to west of Broad Street to be called "Woodward's Girdle", which still stands today along Broad Street near where he once lived with his wife Harriet Beecher Stowe and their two daughters Amelia and Anna Woodrow Wilson – future presidents both Ulysses S Grant and Woodrow Wilson's mother). He also founded The Lakeside Tennis Club which still operates today as one of the top tennis clubs in America

In 1892, a group of businessmen and farmers led by George H. Waddell bought 1,000 acres (400 ha) of land in what is now Highland Park and organized it into a town. They built a church, school and other public buildings, and named their new town after Scottish independence leader Robert Bruce. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location on the edge of an important railroad junction and its access to water resources. By 1915, the population had increased to 4,000 people. However, during World War I (1914-18), Highland Park became one of eight towns across New Jersey that were forced to close because they did not have enough wartime military personnel or materials to support their populations. During the 1920s and 1930s, Highlands Park experienced some significant growth as a result of its status as an agricultural center for eastern New Jersey. In addition, it became home to several companies such as General Electric and Chrysler Corporation. The post-war years saw some decline in population due to suburbanization and economic recession throughout much of New Jersey; however, Highlands Park has maintained steady growth since then thanks largely to philanthropy from residents and businesses alike. In 2017, Highlands Park celebrated its centennial anniversary with celebration events including an agricultural fairgrounds event as well as various civic ceremonies culminating with an outdoor firework show over Memorial Day weekend

Highland Park was founded by Scotsmen in 1796 as a Township in Burlington County. In 1834, the Township was reorganized into a Village and renamed Highland Park. On July 1, 1901, Highland Park became a Borough. The Borough was merged with Middlesex County on January 1, 2002.
