Nathaniel Hawthorne was born on December 3, 1801, in Easton Township (now West Orange), Pennsylvania; his parents were Captain George Haworth (1768-1834) and Martha Smith Haworth (1769-1847). In 1814 he married Sophia Bickford (1792-1858). They had four children: Deborah Ann HawkinsHaworth (born October 5, 1815), Nathaniel Quincy Hawthorne (born November 6, 1816), Emily Dickinson Haworth Stowe (born March 26, 1830), and Edith WhartonHaworth Saint Lawrence Ramsey Jr.(born October 15TH 1840). When Connecticut became a state in 1889 – following the end of the US territory of New York – Delaware Township formed part of that state but continued to be known as Easton Township until 1954 when it became its own independent municipality under the name Hawthorne. The community sprang up around what are now two small rivers called Hackensack River and Monmouth River because they helped serve as natural boundaries between farms which adjoined either side of them during early times. The land comprising present day Hawthorne was first hunted by European colonists for fur traders with headquarters being established at Hackensack Landing on both sides of the river where employees engaged in trade conducted their business under one roof while enjoying access to fresh water that came downriver from hills on either bank. One such executive during this time was Nicholas Toscano who owned land along both banks near where today’s Main Street crosses Hackensack River just east of where Route 9 meets Route 1A about 2 miles north from town center southwest corner line on what used to be Harvey Park Road/Route 9 intersection prior to township designation changes effective July 1st 1949 when all unincorporated areas within township boundaries were allocated into newly created Rockaway Borough pursuant to section 3(a) NJStatutesAnnotated which provided “that all municipalities having a population over 10 thousand [were] consolidated into one borough pursuant to section 8(c) [Newark Zoological Park], except…Easton Township which remained separate” leaving History buffs scratching their heads wondering why only sections 3(a) & 8(c) were relevant given that there are no townships with populations over 10K anymore? Anyway back on topic: according to Census 2000 data*, living alone (% unmarried individuals below 30 years old)†*rose from 31%**to 37%***during 2000 through 2010 period however%,*the percentage*of unmarried individuals above 30 years old residing alone increased†from 24%**to 29%. This upward trend can be largely attributed *to*) increasing numbers (+41%) *of those ages 55+ who have retired or left work fulltime due primarily*to*) advancing ageism&#Array; however&#Array;such retirements cannot completely account for change since number aged 55+ has also increased by 12% since 1990 (# remaining Vacancies*: 40%) [*since 2000] so overall increase could most likely be attributed (*in part*) thereto too!

Nearby there are several archaeological sites that date back to this time period including Fort Washington built by British colonists near present-day Gerritsen Beach in 1764; White Sandsitto another early American outpost located just north of where Hawthorne now stands; Piscataway Manor owned by Dutch colonists also located nearby; Andover Plantation founded about two miles northwest of where Hawthorn now stands; Green Gables plantation established about four miles northeast of where Hawthorn now stands; all these sites served as means for aboriginal people to trade goods with Europeans living nearby or hunting animals for their dinner tables
Hawthorne was founded in 1798 by Nicholas Hawthorne and his wife, Lucy. The Hawthornes were the first to settle in what is now Hawthorne Township. They erected a log cabin on the Nepean River. In 1802, they built a larger cabin on the same site and called it "Hawthorne Hall." In 1803, they moved their home to a more permanent location and renamed it "Hawthorne House." The Haworthies were married for seventy-six years and had six children.
