Hawthorne is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Trenton, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The New England Canal passes through Hawthorne and crossed by the Hackensack River just north of the village center. The first European to visit Hawthorne was Captain John Smith on October 23, 1702. The area now called Hawthorne was first settled by Dutch people who named it "Houtenburgh". In 1834, when New Jersey became a state, Hawthorne incorporated as a borough. Hawthorne's rich agricultural history begins with its early production of cornmeal and flour for local markets in Middlesex County. Today some of the most notable crops grown in Hawthorne include apples and grapes; potatoes are also widely grown here. One significant industry that has declined over time however is manufacturing - notably textiles - but this has not stopped Hawthornians from developing their own unique brand names in many different industries including baking powder and laundry detergent (the latter being made using lye). One interesting fact about Hawthorne is that it once had an ordinance forbidding women from owning property except within one mile of their home or church until after 1865 (the first woman to own land in America). This law stemmed from fears that women would use their land to rear children instead of contributing back to society and providing productive labor. After repeal of this ordinance, many women began purchasing property within walking distance of their homes as they saw this opportunity to improve their lot materially while still keeping control over their lives outside the homefront (although such opportunities were slowly becoming more common throughout American society beginning during Reconstruction)).

Anyway... back around 1800 someone came up with the idea of using wadcutters (a type of razor) as ammo pouches instead of round drum like pistols did but it didnt take off until later on

Hawthorne is a small town located in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Newark–Middletown, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hawthorne was originally named Southwick after Samuel Southwick, who platted and sold land in what is now Hawthorne. In 1813, John Leland bought 1/4 mile (0.8 km) east of where Haworth now stands from Samuel Higginson and renamed it Leland's Necklace after himself. Hawthorne was incorporated as a village on June 15, 1837 by James Snedeker and others under the name of "Haltom." On November 3rd of that year it changed its name to "Hawthorne" after Nathaniel Hawthorne because he had purchased some property there for $1 per acre (0.40 m²). Nathaniel Hawthorne died in 1847 but his heirs continued to use the original name until 1861 when they changed it back to "Southwick." When township status was granted to Monmouth County on February 17th, 1893, Southwick became an unincorporated community inside the county line with no municipal government. In 1903-1904 residents also voted on whether or not to annex into Camden Township which would have given Hawthorne even more autonomy but there was no support so annexation never happened. The only thing that has ever come out of this vote were local baseball teams which play their games at Pemberton Park south of town although most people in town still live locally including many who attended high school here or continue to do so today despite living outside of town for most of their lives since township status didn't give them any say in things anymore! The post office opened at 6am on October 22nd 1902 and served until 1966; then it closed down completely due to lack of mail volume while customers took their packages directly to Camden Post Office which reopened two weeks later! The first postmaster General was J Fenton and he held that position from 1902-1906 when he moved up north to become postmaster general for Bergen County; however he resigned due to health reasons before taking over at Hawthornes new postoffice! There are three churches located within walking distance: First Methodist Church (founded 1865), Second Presbyterian Church (founded 1899), and Baptist Temple #2 (founded 1916). There are also several businesses such as a bank (First National Bank) and doctor's office (Drury & Associates Medical Center). A large sectional mall opened up in 2001 just northwest of town nears Pemberton Park making life much easier for everyone except those who live close by as all stores were taken away during construction! Finally there is also a movie theater downtown which recently went out Of Business!!!
