The area now known as Hawthorne was started by European settlers in the early 1800s and was first called Pemberton Township. In 1827, Pemberton Township was divided into two parts, Hawthorne and Marshland. The township name change came about due to the fact that Hawthorne became the most heavily populated precinct in Marshland Township. By 1830, Hawthorne had become a municipality with its own government and enjoyed rapid growth from its incorporation until 1858 when it merged with neighboring township of Rahway to form Rahway Township. The first gun shop opened in Hawthorne in 1881 and it continued to be one of the town's main businesses for many years. In 1886, an armory/gun factory was built on South Main Street and it served as both a gunsmith shop and a storage facility for arms during World War I. It closed down after the war but reopened several times over the years before finally closing again in 1951. In 1924, Hawthorne amalgamated with neighboring townships of Rahway and Northfield to form West Side Borough which still exists today as one of NJ's largest cities without any boundaries between its constituent communities. Since then, there have been numerous changes to Hawthorne's demographics including comprehensive annexation by Paramus during Hillsborough County Redevelopment Authority's (HCRA)imagination process in 1965 which resulted in more than doubling our population from just over 1,000 people at that time to around 5,000 people today! Today, much like other traditional rural municipalities across America where small-town life continues uninterrupted even as suburban sprawl grows nearby - Hawthorne has seen significant redevelopment along its streetscapes since becoming part of NJLTEFHP! Many new businesses have come online or been renovated while others have closed their doors entirely due primarily to high levels of traffic congestion within our borough limits!

It is located on the Parsippany-Troy Hills border and is considered to be part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The town was first settled by English colonists in 1674. Although little is known about its early years, Hawthorne has been mentioned in various writings by early American pioneers such as John Dickinson and George Washington. By 1800, Hawthorne had a population of 350 people and was one of six towns in Mercer County that received land grants from the U.S. government for agricultural development. Over time, Hawthorne developed into a vibrant community with its own schools and businesses; it also became a center for religious activity with churches such as First Methodist and Presbyterian being built between 1892-1899 and 1912-1916 respectively. In 1960, Hawthorne became an incorporated municipality underNJLOCAL LAW #27-C which granted voting rights to residents over age 25 who resided within two miles of the town limits (and did not live elsewhere). Today, Hawthorne remains an economically active community with several businesses including two banks, four grocery stores/markets, three auto dealerships/repair shops as well as numerous restaurants and bars operated by locals or visitors alike; it also remains home to many antique shops dating back to the late 1800s which have made it a popular tourist destination for those looking to experience traditional NJ history up close.
