Hasbrouck Heights is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,688 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Wilmington, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Hasbrouck Heights were Dutch settlers in 1630. They named their land "Island". The area later became known as Hasbrouck Heights because of the high hill on which it sits and its proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport. The first school in Hasbrouck Heights was opened in 1892. In 1907, the Borough of East Orange built a public works complex on what is now Broad Street and Park Avenue near where present-day Constitution Boulevard crosses Broad Street. This led to the name change from "Hasbrouck Heights" to "Broadview Township". In 1916, Hasbrouck Heights annexed Maplewood Township due to pressure from Maplewood's mayor, Jens Koehler, who said that his township would not be able to handle the influx of new residents if Hasbrouck Heights remained separate. In 1951, during World War II, Hasbrouck Heights served as a military airfield for American forces fighting against Nazi Germany and Japan. During this time period many homes were destroyed or used as barracks by American troops and their families living there after the war ended. In 1976 when sections of Camden were moving into newly created areas along I-95 away from Lindenwolde Avenue (now Englewood Cliffs), much of what is now Hassidic Jewish community center located on Westchester Avenue between Spring Garden Road and Lenox Road also moved out onto Weequahic Highway with other parts moving into adjacent communities such asnew Brunswick (later Neptune) Township until they had all been emptied except for some members still living there while properties were being developed around them including current day Easton Borough which bordered on Hassidic Jewish community center property before it too moved out onto Route 38 when that road was realigned

It is located on the north-central edge of the county and shares borders with Hackensack to the west and Midtown Manhattan to the east. The name Hasbrouck Heights comes from two places: Hasbrouck Township (now part of South Hackensack) and Haddonfield Township (later part of Bergen). The township was named for General James Haddonfield who fought in the American Revolution. Haddonfield Township was formed on April 14, 1834 by merging parts of three other townships: Middleton, East Brunswick and Westwood. The merger made Haddonfield one of the first municipalities in New Jersey. On February 17, 1876, Hasbrouck Heights became a borough when it merged with nearby Midtown Manhattan to formMidtown Manhattan Borough. On May 1, 1990 it reverted back to its original name as part of a restructuring which eliminated all boroughs in Bergen County except for Union City and Paterson. On November 15th 2009 Jermaine Dupri announced that he would be running for Mayor against incumbent Vincent Prieto
