Hasbrouck Heights is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 23,546 at the 2010 census. In 1838, Hasbrouck Heights was part of what is now Camden Township. The present-day borough was formed on April 1, 1913 from parts of Ridgefield Township and North Brunswick Township. The name "Hasbrouck Heights" is derived from two Dutch words: hsbaer (meaning "hill") and bouck (meaning "boundary"). There are several hills in the vicinity which may have influenced the name – one is located just east of Hasbrouck Hills station on the Northeast Corridor Line; another is located near Hillcrest Avenue and Somerset Street in North Brunswick Township. According to the United States Census Bureau, Hasbrouck Heights has a total area of , all of it land. As of the 2000 U.S. Census there were 20,521 people, 8,747 households, and 5,983 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,853/km² (9%) but raised to 3,187/km² (12%) through building permits and zoning changes over time. Wellesley Road forms its eastern border with Camden City limits to form an almost continuous inner-ring belt around Borough Hall Park; this outer belt also includes part of Lindenwood Avenue within Borough Hall's boundaries as well as most of Stillwell Road between Ridgefield Boulevard and Market Street) A large housing development called Asbury Park had been started just outside city limits since 1916 when developers James Fenton & Sons bought property along Wellesley Road from George Washington Parish for $2 million dollars In 1922 they built Asbury Park High School on what would become their largest lot ever purchased - 173 acres including both sides of Wellesley Road extending into Camden City Limits It should be noted that at this time Borough Hall still resided inside city limits until 1955 when it moved out across Broad Street onto its current site next door to Pemberton Library

Hasbrouck Heights is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metropolitan area. The first European settlement in what is now Hasbrouck Heights was founded by Adam Ginther and his family on December 6, 1764, as "Hershey", about northwest of present-day Uniontown. They were the first Europeans to reside in what would become Hasbrouck Heights. The name originated from a Dutch word meaning "haunted place." The Ginthers owned land near what is now Eastwick Road and Prospect Avenue until 1772 when they sold it to Johann Frelinghuysen. In 1778, John Fitzpatrick bought land adjacent to where today's Spring Garden Lane and Prospect Avenue stand from Frelinghuysen for $1 per acre. On February 22nd of that year, Fitzpatrick erected a small wooden home here which he named "Fitzpatrick House". He later added two more stories to this house and renamed it "Fitzpatrick Manor". In 1814, when Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected President of the United States, he moved into one of the small houses built by Fitzpatrick as part of his presidential official residence known as Blair House (now called Friendship House). Mrs. Roosevelt lived there from March 14th through April 5th during her husband's occupancy of the White House before he took office on April 6th. After Mr. Roosevelt's presidency ended on May 3rd, 1924 - just over one year after he had moved into Blair House - Mrs. Roosevelt returned to her original home at Kavanaugh Place and continued living there until she died in 1978 . . . although she never actually resided in Kavanaugh Place again after her death! For more than half a century following its founding as an unincorporated township in 1838, Hasbrouck Heights served primarily as a farming community with few commercial or industrial developments taking place within its boundaries save for two schools operated by private individuals: Northfield School District No 1 (founded 1859) which opened up shopkeepers along Prospect Avenue between Hickson Street and Spring Garden Lane; while Southfield School District No 2 operated_(included*) an academy located east of Hickson Street between Elmhurst Avenue and Cherry Hill Road between 1840 and 1865 ).
