Haspbruck Heights has been known for its extensive forests and pines which have been used for logging since before European settlement. Many of these trees still stand today including some of the oldest log cabins on Long Island Sound. It also contains some of the earliest homes in this part of Middlesex County, dating back to 1795-97 when George Washington Carver built two houses on Empire Avenue near modern-day Route 28. Today’s residents are heavily involved with agriculture; many fields are still used for growing crops such as corn, soybeans and rice. Some of Hasbruck Heights’ most well-known landmarks include Old Bridge Road which leads out into Lake Monmouth; Greenlawn Cemetery where many prominent local families interred; and Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church which serves as a popular tourist attraction due to its unique architecture and beautiful stained glass windows.
