In 1835, during the Second Great Awakening, many people from Hasbrouck Heights converted to Christianity and founded a church called Our Lady of Charity. From that time on, Hasbrouck Heights had a strong religious community that helped promote denominational affiliation among various communities in Bergen County. During World War II, many factories and businesses in the town were destroyed or damaged by bombings from Japan. As a result of this bombing campaign and the war itself, many homes and businesses in Hasbroud Heights were destroyed or severely damaged. In 1951, due to growth within neighboring Midland Township and an increased demand for housing in Bergen County overall,[1] hasbroud heights was annexed into Midland Township.[2] In 1978,[3] following Census results which showed that there were over 5500 residents living in Borough with only 456 households,[4] hasbrook heights was again annexed into Midland Township form an even larger municipality which included all of what is now western Park Slope as well as much of Ridgewood NJ*.[5][6][7][8][9][10] Finally upon its incorporation into Bergen County on October 14th 1995,[11], hasbrook heights truly became one municipality with full jurisdiction over all areas including eastern Park Slope (including Ridgewood) as well as most parts of western Brooklyn.*[12][13][14] * Includes Ridgewood

In addition to this business activity, Housing Board member George Quesada later became one of the largest landowners in Jersey City with over 2 square miles (4 km²) of property between Park Row and Livingston Avenue. After World War II ended, many families left Jersey City for suburban living opportunities in what is now Westwood or Englewood neighborhoods across town. However, many residents who had grown up near Hasbrouck Heights kept their homes and continued to live hereabouts until recently when they moved out into newer communities or withdrew from society altogether. In recent years there has been an increase in people moving back into Hasbrouck Heights- some because they are grandparents or parents who miss their grandchildren living close by but also because they find that it offers more social activities than other parts of town do.
The Hasbrouck Heights area in New Jersey was first settled by Dutch immigrants in the 17th century. The name has been spelled Haddon Heights, Hasbrouck Heights, and Hasburgh Heights. In 1814, a group of English-speaking settlers from Connecticut named themselves the Township of Westchester. The township was dissolved in 1834 and its boundaries changed to include what is now Hasbrouck Heights.
