Harrison, New Jersey is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,872 at the 2010 census. Harrison is located on the southern border of Bergen County and is bordered by Oradell to the east and west, Hackensack to the north and south, and Teaneck to the east. The first European settlers in Harrison were Dutchmen who arrived in 1664. The town was named for Benjamin Harrison, an American Revolutionary War general who fought at Saratoga Springs. In 1834, two brothers founded a mill that became one of the largest mills in New Jersey. Harrison was incorporated as a borough on May 14th of that year. The borough has experienced dramatic growth over the years; from its humble beginnings as a small settlement to becoming one of Bergen County’s most populous municipalities within just 25 years! The population has grown rapidly due largely to heavy manufacturing and commercial development that took place throughout Harrison during this time period – including several large textile plants which have left their mark on the community today.

Harrison is a town in Union County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,752 at the 2010 census. It was formed from the merger of two towns, Harrisonburg and West Milford Township. The first permanent settler in Harrison Township was Nicholas Douglass who arrived in 1784. He built a small cabin on the east side of what is now the town square. In 1806, John Smith founded the Village of Harrisonburgh which grew to become a large town by 1830. The maiden name for Harrison township was spelled "Harrison" until it became "Union" in 1832 due to statehood changes brought about by the American Revolution. The original spelling has been kept by both residents and businesses throughout its history since it represented one of two townships within Union County at that time. In 1837, construction began on what would later be known as Spring Garden National Cemetery; this contributed significantly to the growth of Harrison Township over time. By 1840, there were 1,500 residents living in Harrison Township and more than 100 businesses had been established there. One reason why so much development occurred during this time period may have been because of an effort led by then-Mayor James Phelan to attract new settlers to his township through low land prices and easy access to transportation via horse and wagon trails along the Susquehanna River valley. Harrison was founded in 1795 by the Harrison family. The town was named for General George Washington, who had visited the area on his way to help defeat the British in 1775. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s and by 1825 it had a population of over 1000 people. By 1941, Harrison had increased its population to over 2500 people and it became an incorporated town. In 1951, the townsite was annexed by Jersey City.
