The nearest major city is Newark which has a population over 125,000 people larger than Harrison’s 7% representation in2010 Census combined! The original Dutch colonists who founded this area were called "Willemstadiens." They arrived about 1624 aboard what is now known as "De Ruyter," captained by Lieutenant-General Hendrick Christiaan de Vlaminck van Heemstede alias Lord Hudson; they were looking for new land to settle after exploration failed in Cape May Colony near modern day Paterson NJ., where they found good soil but no water resources available for farming purposes due to high hillsides along both banks of Passaic River valley
