Haddonfield is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,521 at the 2010 census. Haddonfield is the only municipality in Hunterdon County and it is part of the Camden-Newark-Passaic Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Haddonfield were Dutch settlers who arrived in 1624. In 1732, English colonists also settled here and in 1759, they founded Princeton University. The area that became Haddonfield was originally known as parts of Hackettstown and North Brunswick Township. In 1814, when Huntingdon County was created from portions of Middlesex County, Haddonfield became one of its four townships. On March 25, 1834, it received a charter from Governor George Washington to become an incorporated village under the name "Haddonfield". In 1861 during the American Civil War (1861-1865), General James Longstreet's Union army passed through this area on their way south to join Sherman's main army at Richmond. Confederate General Robert Ewell had ordered his armies to cross over the Raritan River into New Jersey on April 15 and march northeastward towards Philadelphia; however, he was driven back by Union forces near Bordentown before reaching North Brunswick Township (now Easton). On May 2 of that year Haddonfield voted 3-to-1 in favor of secession from New Jersey due to complaints about high property taxes and poor service by township officials. This event is generally considered to be the beginning of the war between northern states and southern states over slavery issues within America. On July 20th 1861 local farmers destroyed a bridge across Route 9 just outside present day Pennington Borough after being refused passage by Federal troops marching upriver for military exercises purposes; this roadway still exists as Delaware Avenue today

Haddonfield is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Haddonfield was Nicholas Haddon, who arrived in 1709. In 1718, three brothers – John and Nicholas Haddon, and Thomas Haddon – erected a small log cabin on what is now Main Street. They were the first to take up farming there. In 1837, Samuel Colt settled in what is now Hudson County and began making arms and ammunition for the American Revolution. He also bought land near Haddonfield and started a small lumber business there. His son-in-law developed a oil refinery on Route 3A adjacent to where present-day George Washington Bridge crosses Hackensack River into Jersey City before it became part of New York City; this refinery remains active today as NJOIL Corporation (Newjersey Onshore Oil Industries). In 1868, when Morrellstown Township was created from parts of Hunterdon and Morris counties, Haddonfield became its administrative center. The township had a population of 2,521 when it was formed; by 1920 that number had grown to 7,025 with 1,482 dwellings (a then very high figure). According to the 2010 US Census*, the median household income in Haddonfield was $71,181*, while the median family income was $112,574*. As of 2016*, only 4 percent of residents are below poverty line* (the lowest percentage among all towns in Hunterdon County),* while more than 60 percent have access to college degrees or higher.* According to local historian Dorthy Kappelman* "The history of [Haddonfield] begins with Nicholas Hopper's purchase of 640 acres (2 km²) along Easton Creek from Sir John Johnson on February 12th 1709." That same year he built his original log cabin which still stands today - located at 375 Main Street - and began farming his land which eventually included present day Hudson County. By 1800 he had four other homes built around him: one near Present Day Allentown off Snohomish Boulevard east of Harrison Avenue; one west side road leading out of town at an intersection with Maple Road near Pemberton Lake; another farmstead just south side Livingston Road between Clinton Drive and Maple Road; finally several unoccupied farmhouses scattered around town until they were purchased by Captain Fenton Warren during 1835 due to bad relations between him and Governor Phillips over horse racing debts.* "Haddo field", named after Nicholas Hopper after whom Haddon field Rd came about., dates back much further back even!
