In 1871 the township became part of Camden County and by 1908 it had reached its peak with a population of over 20,000. However, World War I led to a decline in the township's population as many families moved to Camden County for work during the war effort. In 1922 the last resident died and Haddonfield Township became an unincorporated community within Camden County. Today Haddonfield is again a small town with few residents and no businesses open outside of their own homes. It has experienced some recent growth since becoming an enclave as new developers have begun to redevelop properties within its borders into new neighborhoods that offer more opportunities for employment than what is available outside of their areas
Haddonfield was first settled in 1672 by the Quakers. The town became an incorporated municipality in 1834 and was renamed Haddonfield Township in 1876. In 1916, the township's name was changed to Woodbridge Township after the development of Woodbridge Heights.
