Haddonfield, New Jersey is a borough in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,835 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The borough was founded on November 3, 1834 by George Haddon and his family from Haddonfield Township in Westmoreland County. The first white person to live in what is now Haddonfield was Isaac Harmon on April 12, 1835. On February 9, 1836, a large group of settlers from Sussex County arrived at Rensselaer's Landing with the intent of finding land east ofPhiladelphia. George Haddon became one of these settlers and he erected a log cabin there on October 15th that still stands today as part of the Borough Park Historic District. In 1840 four other families also moved into the area – Whitehall (Emmons), Elder (Snyder), Cook (Ferguson) – all settling around what is now Knowlton Avenue and Ridge Road. On July 16th 1830 Samuel Mifflin purchased 640 acres comprising present-day parts of Haddonfield from Peter Gansevoort for $1 cash and three horses although no deed or minutes have been found locating this purchase specifically within the boundaries of present day Haddonfield Township or even within modern-day Somerset County. Samuel Mifflin had come overlanders through Holland during King George III's American Revolutionary War service under Capt David Dixon who had landed near Delaware Bay on October 14th 1775 along with Lt John Andreae and 100 men including 10 Hessians under Majerus van der Sloot after raiding British settlements along the Delaware River valley looking for supplies they lacked munitions & metals needed to fight against their English occupiers Mifflin began developing this land which included building roads and clearing trees for farming purposes soon becoming known as "Mifflin's Purchase." By 1800 he had two stores/fields; an gristmill which ground corn into flour; a sawmill which made lumber; two homes - one being used as an office; an barn/workshop; six buffaloes bred by John Fitzpatrick Jr.; sheep were kept but not milked until about 1850 when early newspapers indicate that cheese could be produced nearby (); Hughey built his first home here circa 1800 (). Eventually more than 30 buildings were erected here between 1830-1890 primarily responsible for boosting township growth rate including: schoolhouse (1830), magistrate’s court house (1840), jail/prison(1860), post office building(1870), library/museum (1910). When it comes to its namesake community center located just off Route 202 just east of Interstate 95 in 1990s development efforts spearheaded by then Borough President Melvin Rosenberg severed ties with its original developer Ned Block due to concerns over changes occurring “outside” those boundary lines according to historian Lisa Pappas writing “With few exceptions...Borough officials had little input into how Center City developed until well after it stopped being managed by Block himself…Rosenberg felt that neighborhood residents did not want changes outside their bounds…Block later stated that he would never have agreed to take over Center City if Rosenberg hadn't shown interest in helping him improve it." In spite of extensive redevelopment efforts throughout most phases throughout its history no supermarket chain ever opened up shop within borough limits despite attempts starting back in 1978 when local businessman Abraham Tannenbaum leased space at 7200 Germantown Avenue inside then Allegheny Technologies headquarters before eventually selling out has plans to open up another store on KYW Shopping Center property adjacent thereto however project remains stalled currently . In recent years restaurants such as Subway sandwich shop opened up while larger chains like Starbucks Coffee & Pastries continue expanding presence within town Limits making it difficult too say definitively whether or not yes indeed "Haddonfield has gone shopping" though some unofficial reports claim otherwise
