Haddonfield, New Jersey is a small town located in South Jersey. It was founded in 1764 by George Haddon and his wife Sarah. The population of Haddonfield was 988 at the 2010 census. The area now known as Haddonfield was first settled by English colonists in 1684. In 1834, the United States acquired what is now Easton from Pennsylvanian owner John Dickinson for $1 million. As part of this deal, Easton also received what is now Haddonfield Township and portions of Burlington Township. The township formed on July 1, 1834 from parts of Burlington and West AmboyTownships. The first settler in Haddonfield was George Dyer who arrived in 1764 with his family from England. Over time, other families followed suit including the Smiths who arrived in 1768 and built their home on the current site of Spring Street SE . By 1800 there were over 100 people living in what is today Haddonfield Township. In 1834, when Pennsylvania became an independent country under the Articles of Confederation, it lost its status as a state to Ohio which had become a powerful slave state during that time period. To make up for this loss, Pennsylvanian Andrew Butler offered to sell what is now Easton to the United States for $1 million dollars which happened on July 1st1834 . As part of this transaction, Easton also gained land around present day Meeting House Road (later renamed First Avenue) as well as much of southbound US Route 22 which runs through the town center today.. The arrival of large numbers of Americans gave rise to some tensions within the community but ultimately these disputes were resolved peacefully through religious ceremonies and communication techniques such as flags being flown at half-mast on Sundays . This type of cultural exchange continued until after World War II when American troops left following the war’s conclusion.. During most phases of its history throughout various stages development;Haddonfield experienced rapid growth due to its advantageous location within commuting distance to Philadelphia or Trenton NJ making it one stop for goods arriving into those cities; however during recent decades there has been an overall decline in population due largely to two factors: improving transportation options combined with increased competition from neighboring towns such as allentown focus on developing new businesses instead Of housing developments; during particular years such declines have led directly or indirectly to job losses within certain sectors

Haddonfield is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. Located on the Hackensack River Valley and bordered by East Rutherford to the north, Paramus to the east, Newark to the south and Weehawken to the west, Haddonfield has been an agricultural community for over 350 years. It is one of only two municipalities in New Jersey (the other being Paterson) that remain unincorporated. Haddonfield was founded by Nicholas Haddon in 1701 as part of what would become West Deptford Township. After his death in 1702, his widow married John Woolridge and they took up residence in a cabin near present-day Haddonfield Park. In 1705, when Dutch colonists arrived in North America and began settling this area, they encountered Native Americans who had been living here for thousands of years. The Dutch called these people "The Lenape." The English renamed them "Haddonfield" after Nicholas's father-in-law Sir Humphrey Haddon (1685–1746), which means "haunted place." In 1814, while fighting against Ulysses S. Grant during the American Civil War on Staten Island, Union General James Longstreet came across a group of villagers burning their homes down because they could not afford to buy new ones. His men tried to stop them but were repulsed by local militia led by Captain Abraham Hackett Jr.. That night Longstreet burned all of the houses within sight - including those owned by Hackett - along with all their crops and livestock before retreating back into town without taking any prisoners or destroying any property. This event is commemorated on Mount Stroudsburg Battlefield Monument located near whereHackett's house once stood... In 1868 – following Reconstruction – Mayor Samuel Morse appointed Averill Harriman as surveyor general for Bergen County and he recommended that Haddonfield be placed within it instead of West Deptford Township because it had more residents and better transportation links with other parts of the county than did West Deptford Township... The first post office at Haddonfield opened on December 16th 1869; it was known as 'Patchogue'. On November 9th 1870 Joseph Pappas became its first Postmaster; he served until his retirement on October 12th 1902... In 1907 President Theodore Roosevelt visited Haddonville during his visit to Jersey City; he spent time at Harriman's home looking at railroad projects through binoculars from a window behind Mrs. Harriman's bedroom... On July 25th 1912 George Washington Smithers established an Academy for Boys High School which continues today as South Hunterdon Regional High School... In 1916 Borough Administrator Harry Shapiro organized a successful campaign for incorporation into Bergen County which resulted in incorporation on August 29th 1916… On June 10th 1951 Borough Administrator Irving Harris resigned effective midnight making him ineligible for re-election due to term limits set forth in state law... As result of this resignation borough administrator William Jaffe became acting borough administrator until an election can be held under state law)... Borough Council held its first meeting on October 3rd 1951 with Bailiff Harry Shapiro presiding over council chamber having replaced Irving Harris who left office prior to that date

In 1836, the township became part of Bergen County. By 1870, Haddonfield had a population of around 4,500 people. The industry that helped to drive the town's growth during the 19th century was agriculture; however, this has since disappeared and most residents are now based in the nearby towns of Union City and Paramus.
