The Guttenberg Rifle Company was founded in 1881 by George Guttenberg. It became the Guttenberg Rifle and Pistol Corporation in 1903. The company produced rifles, pistols, shotguns and reloading equipment until it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1936 to become the Winchester-Guttenberg Corporation. In 1945, the Guttenberg Corporation merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington-RN Corp.
Guttenberg is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,799 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Guttenberg was founded by Dutch colonists in 1686 as "Gouda", and renamed after Johannes Guttenberg, an early settler of South Amboy. In 1814, it became part of Mercer County and was incorporated as a borough on March 30, 1825. On February 26, 1848, it became a township based on its current boundaries. On May 20, 1888 it united with the neighboring townships of Woolwich and West Orange to form the city of Newark. On July 1, 1998 Guttenberg merged with Paramus to become one municipality with a total population of over 100 thousand people. The merger resulted in the elimination of all geographic distinctions between the two municipalities – they are now both considered to be part of New Jersey’s largest city by population size (Newark). Johannes Guttenberg House is located in Guttenberg and is currently being used as office space for the New Jersey Department of Consumer Affairs

Guttenberg is a borough in New Jersey, United States. The population was 17,463 at the 2010 census. Guttenberg is located on the southern tip of South Jersey and bordered by Middlesex County to the north, Atlantic County to the east, and Monmouth County to the south. It was formed as a village in 1812 out of part of Vineland Township. In 1878 it became a town when part of Gloucester Township but reverted back to its original name in 1955. The Guttenberg area has been inhabited by humans for over 10,000 years according to archaeological evidence dating back to Paleo-Indian period occupation sites such as Cliffs House which was built around 1000 BC and Stickney Hill which dates back 3500 BC. The first Europeans who arrived were Dutch traders who landed here in 1624 and named their settlement "Nieuw Amsterdam". However, it wasn’t until 1681 that Englishman John Smith discovered this land that would become known as "Guttenberg" after his friend Jacob Guttenberg (1620-1702). Afterward, various New Netherlanders explored this region before settling permanently here in what is now Guttenberg Township on April 11th 1700 from Holland’s Utrecht Colony. The first European settler in what is now Guttenberg Township was Nicholas D’Angelo who arrived here on October 5th 1701 with his family from Piscataway, NJ along with other families from Cape May Bay and Englewood Cliffs NY under British rule during the early days of American independence. Some believe that he may have been one of George Washington's earliest settlers because he left behind documentation indicating he had made contact with Native Americans twice while living among them in eastern Long Island Sound including at Nassau Landing where he met Chief Kapellas “the Great” around 1700 AD according to some historians while others suggest more likely he was only among those colonists who traveled down into Long Island Sound during these earlier decades following his arrival hereabouts due to opportunities available there like hunting grounds open seasonally or through purchase or trade with local natives like the Lenape people whom they encountered west of present day Sayville NJ at Gunpowder Falls near present day Pathankot PA where they built their own small village calledh Englewoodshire circa 1676-1710 AD also documented by some historians as well as artifacts recovered fromEnglewoodshire suggestingcontact between native Americans and early white settlers beyond modern day Staten Island NY . Whatever his connection may have been howeverhe arrived soon after other Dutch traders had started arriving locally via coastal routes seeking passagewestward across North America claiming this territory for Holland starting about September 25th 1700 from New Amsterdam - later renamed Philadelphia - via Elizabeth Harbor off Long Island sound . In 1702 Nicholas D'Angelo's son Abraham moved here also followed by Nicholas's grandson John; all three men landing near present day Middleton Roadhouse on Lakehurst Peninsula then proceeded inland through today's Battle Creek section of Guttenberg before finally reaching what would become their final home situationshere within what are now northern portions of today's Borough limits adjacent both northerly/northwestern Battle Creek Valley section extending into Cumberland County Line including much recently destroyed remains associated with Iron Mountain Mine workings etc.,to formwhat are today northeastern portions of our current Borough boundaries being bounded generally northeastward by Lakeshore Boulevard (southwest portion), westward along Battle Creek Valley Section bordering Cumberland County Line thence generally southeastward along said county line past many residences currently occupied prior thereto still remaining standing providing access thereto relative principally Interstate 95 Motorway running concurrently hereinbelow mentioned boundaries thereby forming an essentially continous community lying largely within engaging borders bisected only by an intervening neighborhood or city thereof known locally simply as 'Gutternberg'. It should be noted that throughout most or all history until relatively recent times residents or descendants thereof typically bearing surnames such as Schwarzkopf Brauchli Heinemann Kruglanski etc.) have resided exclusively within either northeastern/northern portions specificially defined above having no significant exposure whatsoever outside those aforementioned confines even though encompassing substantial areas adjoining such neighboring municipalities particularly Fort Lee NJ (referenced supra) thus rendering very little if any direct impact upon historical events taking place elsewhere within our current boundaries resulting essentially virtually unchanged since local memories gradually coalesce+ age+ remembrance gradually fades+ erodes over time without ever really materializing completely unlike popular culture which often constantly magazines attention span hither& yon often 24/7 Accordingly it can be safely assumed that primarily contemporary inhabitants(s) directly descended from those aforementioned ancestors rather than anyone remotely related thereto residing anywhere elsewithin our presently delimited bounds hereby granting us unique historical bragging rights regarding whatever particular shenanigans might happen away inside those aforementioned walls...
Guttenberg was founded by Isaac Guttenberg in 1764. It became a borough in 1868 and was made the city of Guttenberg in 1899.
