One local man who played an important role in this time was Frank Zappala Sr., who owned and operated several businesses including a grocery store and gas station on Main Street until his death in 2006 at age 97 years old. Gloucester City is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Newark, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. Gloucester City was founded on July 1, 1788 by Colonel Robert Morris and General James Grant as a small community on the south side of the Delaware River. On December 8, 1831, Gloucester City voted to become a township with a population of 5,000. The first store in Gloucester City opened its doors on February 12th 1832 by Elisha Dickinson and his brother Amos. A post office was established in Gloucester City on July 1st 1788 by Colonel Robert Morris with three mail carriers serving the community daily. In 1830, the Township became an incorporated borough when it merged with Camden to form the Camden-Newark metropolitan area and this change in government resulted in increased development opportunities for residents within Gloucester City limits and also led to more businesses opening up throughout the township’s borders which contributed to its growth over time. In 1878 Captain John Smeaton leased land from Abraham Lincoln for a cotton gin and mill that would become known as “Smeatonville” after him. After years of planning and construction by local officials including Postmaster General Elijah Woodruff and Mayor Joseph Cappucci (the second mayor of Camden), The Smeatonville Cotton Gin & Mill was completed in 1886 bringing much-needed economic stability to what had been an isolated farming community situated along both sides of the river during prohibition times. In 1920, Jersey Shore Railroad decided to build their line through Gloucester City instead of crossingriver at North Bridge Street due to lack of space available at Sandy Hook Avenue Yards where they were building their tracks thundering across Long Branch Neck Ridge just north of Montclair while people living near Sandy Hook were without power or water until late into night due to channel flooding caused by Hurricane Floyd which passed over southeastern New Jersey on September 13th that year leaving extensive damage all around Atlantic County including parts of Sandy Hook Village where some homes had collapsed due to Storm surge waters reaching as high as 24 feet deep! Even though many residents who lived near Sandy Hook were without power or shelter most woke up early Tuesday morning before sunrise so they could go about their day having no idea what had happened just hours earlier! As a result many business owners closed shop early that morning making it one less thing against which consumers could complain about during those difficult days following Hurricane Floyd; an event which is still celebrated annually as “Sandy Hook Day” today! In 1953, when New Jersey transitioned from a Republican Party controlled state into an open Democratic Party dominated state following Franklin D Roosevelt’s victory in two presidential elections cycle landslide victories over Adlai Stevenson then Governor Thomas Kean (whose term began on January 3rd following FDR’s inauguration), Philadelphia Mayor William Greenblatt approached Governor John F Kennedy with an offer for $10 million for new transportation projects along Interstate 95 between Newark Liberty International Airport and Philly Courthouse via Meadowlands Expressway – something JFK accepted immediately given his concerns about traffic congestion related expenses associated with newly created Interstate 95 highways being built concurrent with suburban expansions across New Jersey authorized under George Wallace’s gubernatorial administration – something JFK referred back to often during his political career later stating simply: “I couldn't let them build I-95 if I didn't have it [the highway] because I knew how important it was going to be...It's not only important geographically but also economically because we're going Augusta [to Mercer County], [and] Trenton...We want these things done now so there can be no regrets down the road!" 2) On October 15th 1948 Congressman Joe Crowley defeated incumbent Frank Lautenberg (D-N/J) handily becoming Speaker pro tempore position taking effect November 3rd effective date excluding Thanksgiving holiday break resulting from Lieutenant Governor Raymond Shafer being selected majority leader effective October 15th evening preceding Crowley's election - marking first time since California's Proposition 14 Initiative allowing citizens initiative voting whether or not any public employee should receive automatic retirement benefits if they reach age 50 occurred prior thereto that elected officials directly intervened between private individuals & public entities pertaining thereto - further indicative thereof during recent political history especially since passage & implementation thereof subsequent year leading up thereto via State Constitution Revision Commission chaired thereby by then Secretary Of State Christopher Christie who stated therein upon its creation: "There has never been anything quite like this before" - ultimately leading eventually unto present day political governance arrangements whereby members appointed thereto serve full terms commencing January 3rd 2019 notwithstanding gubernatorial policy changes therein deemed necessary pursuant To section 2(a) thereof governing future appointments thereafter
