It is the county seat of Sussex County.Glen Rock was founded in 1764 by George Washington and his wife Martha Washington's brother-in-law Thomas Jefferson. The original settlers were farmers who grew corn, tobacco and other crops on their land. In 1809, the town became part of Bergen County and lost its municipal status until it regained it in 1922. Glen Rock is now a bedroom community for Paramus Township and has developed into an agricultural powerhouse with production of fruits, vegetables, hops and other items such as wine grapes. The first gun slings were made from cords of willow branches that had been twisted into a knot to suspend a bow or arrow over a pole or staff while someone fired it from behind cover. These early sling shooters used hand-held bows that could not be drawn very far because they needed to be held close to the body for accuracy.
