Glen Rock is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,868 at the 2010 census. Glen Rock is located on the border of Morris and Sussex counties. It is part of the Camden metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Glen Rock was Nicholas Vesalius, who arrived in 1764 from Bohemia with his family. Vesalius farmed land near present-day Hillside and built a cabin there. In 1773, he married Margaret (née McConnell). The Vasalis left their farm to move to a more permanent location on the banks of the Raritan River where they erected a log house known as "The Three Graces". In 1814, David Hallbrook settled in what is now Glen Rock Township and began small ranching operations along the Raritan River. By 1860, Hallbrook had developed an extensive agricultural empire that included over 100 miles of farmland and three thousand head of livestock. In 1892, local resident John Hicks bought some rights to build a railroad through Morris County from Pennsylvania Railroad Company president George Wickersham for $5 per acre (equivalent to $ ). On July 1, 1892 – two years after Hicks' purchase –the first train reached Glen Rock from Philadelphia via Morristown Junction; it consisted of two coaches and carried only passengers. Glenrock's primary industry until about 1910 was agriculture; however, this changed with the arrival of new technologies such as synthetic rubber production and refrigeration manufacturing during World War I which led to increased industrial activity in town hall square which contributed significantly to economic development over time.

Glen Rock is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. It was formed on March 10, 1895 from the merger of two smaller townships, Northumberland and West Windsor. The borough's population was 12,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the New York City metropolitan area. The name "Glen Rock" comes from an old Scots word meaning "haunted place." The first settler in what is now Glen Rock was Andrew Smith who arrived in 1747 and built a log cabin on the hill overlooking town. In 1824 John Prentice erected a small frame house known as the Post Office which still stands today. In 1873 George Armstrong Custer became governor of New Jersey and visited Glen Rock where he stayed for three nights at his home before returning to Trenton. In 1895, when Morristown Township was split into two parts based on their different proportions of white residents and German-Americans within it, Glen Rock chose to remain part of Northumberland Township despite its size being only 8 square miles compared to Morristown's 24 square miles. This unusual decision contributed to the borough's strong identification with its larger neighbor to the south which has continued even through various mergers among local municipalities that have taken place over time in Morris County. The early settlers were primarily farmers who grew corn, hay, apples and other vegetables; they also raised chickens or hogs for meat and milk while quarrying stone for building materials such as churches and homes. By 1900 there were 5 stores (4 grocery stores + one feed store) with a total payroll of $3 million; almost all these businesses closed by 1920 when farming had become more automated around this time nationwide due to advances in transportation technology such as automobiles which made it easier for people to get food supplies closer than ever before). However, many small businesses did survive including 3 banks (2 national banks + one state bank), 1 electric company (partnered with American Electric Power Company), 1 automobile dealership (Ford Motor Company), 2 insurance companies (Johnston & Moore Rating Agency) - all of which continue operating today except Ford Motor Company which merged with State Farm Insurance Company several years ago; 4 restaurants/bars/cafes (+1 since 1990); 2 news outlets (+1 since 1990); 1 post office (-3 since 1990); 1 library (-5 since 1990); 2 daycare centers (-1 each beginning 1996 ); 1 parade grounds (+2 since 1990). As manufacturing industry declined throughout most of NJ during the 1970s & 1980s accompanied by suburban growth around Newark Liberty International Airport; GlenRock experienced rapid population growth until 199os when apartments replaced factories as mainstay community economic source up until recently although some local businesses have survived including: 3 banks - JP Morgan Chase Bank National Association, HSBC Bank USA Inc., Wells Fargo & Co.; 4 restaurants - Danone’s Restaurant Group LLC., Crystal Pizza Place Inc., Papa John’s Pizza Inc.; 2 news outlets - NJ Advance Media Group NewspapersInc.-NJ 1010 WINS-WGME-NBC Philadelphia network affiliates plus scanner operation at local high school; 1 post office - The Post Office Corporation Ltd./Postal Service Trustees Of Morris County-(PSTC)-(Formerly USPS National Mail Center)) . In recent years much focus has been placed upon downtown redevelopment described by observers as “a coming-of-age story for downtown Morrisburg [sic]" following selection by city officials as one site plan area under consideration for revitalization after years of languishing maintenance status despite availability of significant funding sources both public & private along with enthusiastic support from neighborhood residents followed by groundbreaking last year marking official designation byMorrisburg Mayor Cory Booker Jr.(D) uptown redevelopment zone will be bounded on First Street eastward towards Interstate 80 northerly then northward paralleling that street southward prioritizing new business development over historicalresidential use or parking spaces however access road grid remains unchanged long distance bus service operated outfreethe bus stop located adjacentto existing recreation center
