Charles Willard served as Postmaster from 1800-1802 before moving to Princeton and taking up a career as a lawyer There were two postmasters until 1830 when James Canby took over and held office until 1836 when he resigned due to illness On March 1st 1830 James Canby's successor Samuel Morse set up an office at 12 Main Street which lasted until 1840 when it moved to 4 Livingston Street where it operated continuously until 1851 when it changed its name to "New Brunswick". In 1861 glassborough voted 3-2 not to annex Rahway so that Rahway would become a separate municipality but this action failed because both sides appealed In 1898 borough president John Pappone announced plans for annexation by Plainfield which also failed referendum but this led to Pappone's resignation effective May 1st 1899 In 1909 Borough President William Crouse announced plans for annexation by Edison which passed referendum with 58% voting in favor against 2% opposition However this implementation also failed referendum

In 1854, Josephine Grimaldi sold her home on Broad Street for $10 to Jno Hildreth who set up his business there as an undertaker until 1865 when he moved it across the street to where it stands today as Hildreth's Grocery Store (now known as Joe's Italian Grill & Pub). After moving his store several times over its lifetime due to fire hazard reasons, Hildreth finally erected his brick building on North Grove Avenue in 1903 which still stands today serving as both a grocery store and restaurant. A new shopping center called The Mall opened on Main Street near MacArthur Boulevard in 1984 after years of planning by local businesses including Foot Locker and Sears Holdings Corporation which merged into Sears Inc., currently known as Kmart Stores America LLC. The mall also included an entertainment complex including a movie theater and two large department stores - JCPenney Home Department Stores and Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Menard's department store - making it one of only two malls located outside Chicago that were open when Kmart merged with Sears Holdings Corporation effective January 1st 1997. After more than 20 years operating under multiple names (Mall Of America, The Commons), Kmart announced plans on November 15th of 2014 to close all but three stores – all adjacent to one another – inside their massive former Menard's location at Route 202 & Old Bridge Road in Rotterdam Township because they could not sustain competitively priced retail growth against online retailers such as Amazon Web Services Inc., Barnesand Noble N/A., Macy's Inc., Nordstrom Rack N/A."
