Garfield, New Jersey is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,848 at the 2010 census. Garfield was founded by Dutch colonists in 1756 and became part of the United States in 1801. It was naturalized as a U.S. city on July 4, 1870.

Garfield is located on the southwestern edge of Mercer County and is bordered by Monmouth Township to the north, Wildwood Borough to the east, Neptune Beach Borough to the south and Atlantic City Township to the west. Garfield was first settled in 1784 by British colonists as part of what is now Burlington County. The name comes from George Washington's estate in Virginia which had been named "Newburgh." In 1814, when Mercer County was formed from portions of Burlington and Monmouth counties, Garfield became part of that new county. The first recorded school in Garfield was built in 1785. It closed in 1827 but reopened as an academy in 1829. A second school opened in 1839 and remained open until it burned down in 1865. There were also two churches - one erected around 1800 and another built later - as well as a market place and a couple of stores before annexation into monmouth township occurred circa 1850-51. During World War II, many factories were built near Garfield including one for General Motors southwest of town (now part of Perth Amboy). The post office moved from its original location on Main Street to its current location on Church Street about 1930s; this building still stands today. The Garfield Civic Improvement Society was founded about 1925 with primary goals such as beautification of main streetscape; providing social services such as recreation programs; improvement of schools; fundraising for local charities;and promotion/promotion of boroughhood among residents/groups within their community or locality thereof etc.; during early years inception there were few or no activities undertaken by GIS society other than keeping records & photographs thereof etc.; however over time various events & functions have been hosted/announced via email notification subject “Garfield civic improvement society meeting” at least once per month typically several days prior thereto throughout both summer & winter semester leading up to event date(s)Providing visitors with up-to-date information regarding proceedings held therein& more recent activity if any should occur outside posted notice period commenced immediately following date(s)of each meeting agendas are available upon request directly to members present at each meeting@ GarfieldCivicInnovationSociety GPS data shows that borders between municipalities have changed over time: wildwood has annexed neptune beach while ocean city has annexed higher waterline municipality
Gun magazines have a long and varied history. They were first developed in the mid-19th century to help soldiers in battle by providing them with quick access to rounds of ammunition. Today, they are still used by many people for various purposes, including self-defense and shooting sports. The first gun magazines were made from sturdy paper or wood pulp strips that were cut into small squares or circles. The square/circle magazine was then folded in half and glued to the side of a rifle barrel using beeswax or some other adhesive. Garfield is a borough in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, Garfield had a population of 20,711. The area now known as Garfield was first settled by Germans and Dutch settlers in the late 18th century. The name originated from the Garwood tree near which the town was developed. Garfield was incorporated as a borough on May 12, 1902, from portions of Township 2 (Bergen County), based on results of an election held that same day. The original boundaries were east-west streets and avenues running along Newark Bay; these were changed to north-south streets and avenues in 1924 when portions of Borough Park were annexed into the borough. The first settler in what became Garfield was Adolf Kappel who arrived there with his family in 1838 from Holland. He built a house on present-day Livingston Avenue and named it "Garfield". In 1840 the Kappels founded another settlement called "Otto's Place" just south of present-day Garfield Boulevard and Easton Road; this settlement later became part of Bergen County. That year, township residents conducted an election to form their own government following recommendations made by President James Kappel after he toured the area during his visit to America. They chose to form a government under a mayor and six trustees who would manage all aspects of municipal life including police protection and firefighting services. In 1903, following annexation by Mercer County, Garfield voted to become its own municipality; however, because it did not have enough voters to qualify for incorporation until 1912 due to its small population size (20 officers versus over 100 municipalities), it remained part of Bergen County until becoming an independent borough on May 12th 1902
Garfield was founded in 1785 by Major John Garfield. The township was named for John, the son of George Washington. In 1836, the Township became a Borough and in 1917 it became a City.
