Freehold was an township in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 14,521. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In 1808 Abraham Lyon erected a gristmill which became one of the most important mills located within town limits; it still stands today and produces flour for many local businesses including Dunkin' Donuts and Subway sandwich shops thereby contributing to village life during that time period However due to increasing land values within the township over time freeholders began selling some lands off to additional settlers while others simply abandoned their holdings altogether Freehold reached its peak population count during World War II with approximately 20,000 people living there according to government documents However following the war efforts were focused more towards agriculture rather than industry so much so that by 1950 only 6% of households involved in agriculture remained In total between 1947-1960 there were 9 different mayors who served as acting mayor 4 times each
