The origins of Sonex can be traced back to 1876 when two German immigrants named Johann Gottlieb Sonex and Wilhelm Friedrich Sonex founded the company in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The company quickly became known for its quality products and gained a large following among American consumers. In 1916, the company moved its production headquarters from Fort Lee to Yorktown Heights, New York. Sonex continued to produce high-quality optics until it ceased operations in 1984. Today, the legacy of Sonex remains strong within the industry thanks to their product offerings and marketing capabilities.

In 1903, German photographer Ernst Ludwig Kirchner started producing his own type of camera lens called the König-Luxor-Objektiv (KLO). This lens was specifically designed to allow photographers to take photos in darkrooms without having any light interference at all! This new innovation helped make black-and-white photography possible and gave photographers an advantage over those using plate glass negatives!
In 1907, American Optical Company began making a type of optical glass called High-Violet Glass. This type of glass had a violet light transmission index of about 100. In 1916, the company introduced an improved version of this glass, which they named "ultraviolet" glass. The ultraviolet glass had a transmission index of about 230. In 1925, American Optical Company became part of GE Limited and continued to produce ultraviolet glass under the name "ultraviolet"glas
Fort Lee was a small outpost on the Jersey shoreline in 1776 during the American Revolution. It became a major military and naval base during the Revolutionary War, and played an important role in the Battle of Jersey City. After the war, Fort Lee fell into disrepair and was abandoned in 1814. However, it was reborn as a research center for biotechnology in 1984 and remains one of New Jersey's most important historical sites.
In 1776, the British attacked Fort Lee and burned it. The British then took control of New Jersey and began to deport American citizens. The fort still stands today, but is not used anymore.
