On December 12th of that year Amtrak absorbed NJ Transit into their system when they merged all bus service within New Jersey into one common entity known as "Amtrak Northeast Corridor". This action made Fort Lee the only city in New Jersey to have both Amtrak and NJ Transit services operating side-by-side!

Fort Lee was a small fortification located on the Jersey Shore in Fort Lee Township, New Jersey. The fortifications were built between 1777 and 1779 to protect the town of Fort Lee from attack by French and British forces. The fortifications are also significant for their role in the Battle of Princeton which took place on July 4, 1776. The first mention of a fort at this location is from 1609 when Nicholas de Montresor acquired land near what is now Fort Lee Township. In 1615, John Lambert acquired land east of present-day Fort Lee and laid out a plan for a small fortress thereon that would be called Westchester House. In 1624, Thomas Dongan purchased property in what is now Fort Lee Township and erected a small stockade thereon known as Dongan's Forts. In 1777, General George Washington ordered Major-General Charles Cornwallis to march his army through New Jersey to attack the Continental Army under General Benedict Arnold at Trenton. On July 4,1776, after days of fighting, Cornwallis finally arrived at Princeton Junction where he realized that Arnold's force was larger than his own. Cornwallis decided not to assault Arnold's position but instead retreat toward Newark Liberty Bridge where he met withWashington who convinced him to continue the fight at Trenton rather than surrender. Aftermath of the battle included over 50 dead Americans and 350 British casualties including 10 officers killed or captured including Cornwallis himself
