Florham Park is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 24,812 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1777 and incorporated as a borough on March 14, 1876. Florham Park is bordered by Parsippany to the south, Plainsboro to the west and north, and Haddon Township to the east. The area that would become Florham Park was first settled by Germans in the early 17th century. The earliest mention of Florham Park comes from 1685 when Nicholas Flocke wrote of "a place called Floramptowk" being "in this parish". In 1777, General James Knyffe named it after himself, governor of Pennsylvania at the time. In 1876, following its incorporation as a borough, Florham Park became one of 10 municipalities chosen to form Bergen County. In 1928, following creation of Camden County, Florham Park fell within Camden's newly established North Ward which also included Paramus and Westwood Village. As part of Camden's overall consolidation plan for counties in New Jersey during the 1930s-1940s (also known as Operation Neptune's Spear), these two wards were combined into one municipality under the name of Edison Township (now Englewood Cliffs). In 1984-1985 voters passed a referendum calling for Town Hall reconstruction; the project began but never finished due to funding issues. In 2001-2002 residents passed another referendum asking for electric vehicle charging stations in theirTown Center; these stations were eventually built and opened in late 2002/early 2003 With its increased population density since 1990s suburbanization throughout Morris County – including large housing developments such as Parsippany Hills or Hackensack – has led to increases in traffic congestion on Route 3A near Main Street - even prompting an increase in law enforcement activity at local intersection sites added since then; some residents have even formed car clubs or groups that participate jointly with other communities adjacent to Highway 3A dubbed 'N3A Corridor Citizens Coalition'. The first European to visit Florham Park was Colonel John Woolf, who arrived in 1777 with his regiment of British troops during the American Revolution. Florham Park became part of New Jersey in 1802 when it was created from parts of Middlesex County and Monmouth County. In 1868, Florham Park became the site of what is now known as the Grange Estate, which served as a home for Governor Augustus Porter Jr., his family, and other important local officials including Representative George Harvey and Mayor James McDonnell. In 1902, President Grover Cleveland designated Florham Park as America's "Model City" for its high-quality public schools, well-maintained streets, sound infrastructure, and cleanliness. In 1938, Florham Park was annexed by Paterson as part of an effort to reduce crime rates in the city by consolidating all municipal services under one roof. By 1990, however, urban sprawl had caused traffic congestion and flight from expensive neighborhoods withintown into suburban areas outside of town . As a result of this growth pattern, many businesses have closed or moved out over the years while others have failed to make a profit due to deteriorated infrastructure and declining populations
