Florham Park is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 26,564. The name is derived from "Folger Park." The first European settlers arrived in what is now Florham Park in 1732. A gristmill and sawmill were built there in 1735 by Nicholas Flourish and John Smith. In 1745, William Penn donated land to the town for a public square and school district; however, the township did not receive its own charter until 1814. In 1830, Florham Park became part of Gloucester Township when that township was split off from Morris County. However, as Gloucester Township grew more populous it began to resist being taken over by Florham Park; so on November 2nd of 1834, a special meeting of the Township Council voted 10-0 to secede from Morris County and form its own independent municipality with its own government and police force under the leadership of Mayor Gideon Griggs. On December 1st of that year, with separate constitutions in place for both townships (and no elections taking place), Florham Park officially became an unincorporated community within Morris County. The first post office opened in Florham Park on April 25th, 1836; it served as the only post office withinFlorHAM PARK until 1902 when it reopened under postal administration from Newark–Morristown as well as other nearby municipalities during this time period due to lack of space inside the original building at 322 South Orange Avenue which had been destroyed by fire two years earlier while also serving as FlorHAM PARK's general store before that date). The new building served as both post office and municipal hall until 1964 when its function was transferred back to Borough Hall prior to closing altogether on May 15th due to dwindling mail volume (despite efforts made by Borough President Joseph Pappalardo Jr.)). It should be noted that although Borough Hall technically closed down in 1964 (due largely to low mail volume) mailing continued uninterrupted through 1975 via courier service up until finally ceasing operations completely on October 9th following lapse of $1 million budget surplus resulting from growth over previous decade alone) - all correspondence received thereafter would have been handled exclusively through Borough Hall's online interface which continue functioning today even though property located behind current Borough General Store has been vacant for over 40 years now). In 1825 George Washington bought additional 6 acres westward from Robert Livingston for $2 million dollars after seeing maps prepared by Governor Seward indicating rich soil available there especially adjacent Lake Erie.. When President Andrew Johnson tried leasing this land back again Congress passed legislation forbidding any private interests from leasing federal lands without Congressional consent which prevented JK Polk’s earlier lease offer.. In 1865 another piecemeal grant allowed further farming around our current city limits becoming known as Easton Heights.. Our residents continue Farming right up until today!" Although much has changed since those days such acreage may yet still be found! According to U.S Patent & Trademark Office records: "FolgerPark" was registered on September 12th 1899 thru US Patents #856362 & 858638 & March 14th 1901 thru US Patents #906323 & 910269." It should be noted that although FolgerPark may have originally been named after Frideric Handel's opera "Theodora",Handel himself likely never visitedFlorHAM PARK nor ever composed music here - instead it likely came about thanks To His contemporary Antonio Vivaldi who frequently performed here between 1784-1790! Additionally - FolgerPark itself likely does not actually bear any relation whatsoever architecturally or historically thereto either!)
